🚨 HE LOST THE H-1B LOTTERY 7 TIMES.
And apparently it didn’t matter.
Look at the immigration path this Reddit user says ultimately led to a green card:
F-1 -> STEM OPT -> DAY 1 CPT -> GREEN CARD
The poster says they went through 5 years and 7 H-1B lottery rounds without ever being selected.
Seven failed attempts.
Yet they say they moved onto Day 1 CPT, continued working on the F-1 student-visa pathway, and ultimately received an employment-based green card.
Think about that the next time someone tells you these programs are simply about keeping the “best and brightest” or the “most qualified.”
What exactly determined that here?
The worker wasn’t selected for H-1B once.
Or twice.
They weren’t selected seven times.
Yet H-1B ultimately wasn’t necessary.
This isn’t about attacking the person. They used the system available to them.
The problem is the system.
What exactly is the point of limiting H-1Bs if someone can repeatedly fail the selection process, move to a student-visa work pathway, continue working toward employment-based permanent residency, and ultimately get a green card anyway?
And Day 1 CPT raises the most important question:
Is someone going back to school primarily to get another education, or because enrollment provides the work authorization needed to keep working?
