@cahlberg Read this with great interest, Christopher. Thanks for sharing. Interested in your view: what is the core of the matter here that Moore has missed?
When students fall far behind in math:
- mastering future content gets harder
- unfinished learning snowballs
- the pace req. to catch up in a year gets absurd.
All of which exacerbates inequities.
Path forward: A transition to personalized, competency-based learning.
@CommissBratton Richard Ravitch, Bob Kiley, Bill Bratton, the unheralded Joseph Fernandez and Anthony Alvarado of NYC schools... among the towering civic leaders of a generation who rebuilt New York's social, political and physical prowess under pressure. NYC today owes them much.
My compliments to @ZachTumin and Madeleine Want on their new book, ‘Precisely,’ and its focus on the importance of precision analytics in a world increasingly dependent on an expanding, complex environment of data systems and technologies. I had the great good fortune to co-author an earlier book with Zach, ‘Collaborate or Perish in Today’s Networked World.’ Both books use real-life experiences and initiatives to guide the reader through the growing information complexities of the 21st century world we live in and share. As a practitioner of Predictive and Precision Policing, I found it to be a valuable addition to that data-driven world.

Really grateful to these NYPD cops grabbing suspects in slashings and murders off our platforms and subways. A good day for New York. https://t.co/UtFiSl2bDt

Data scientists are asking questions, they're forming hypotheses, they're testing new things, they're building narratives, they're taking risks, they're telling stories. . . . It's an art and a science and a great use of human time. https://t.co/sduBssUOlQ
