I find this concept unbearably moving. So many people who I no longer speak to or see for whatever reason who I still carry with me in how I dress, what I listen to, the slang I use, the morals I try to live by. How porous we are, how infinitely influential!
I know this is being normalized extremely quickly, but let’s take a step back, put political analysis aside, and think about how insane this is. Students across the country are being arrested by actual police for sitting on the lawns of their universities with tents and signs.
The state of Canada requires First Nations to live in poverty as leverage to continue the ongoing theft of lands and natural resources. They use poverty as a tool to get us to sign away our inherent sovereignty and rights and assimilate into Canada’s political systems.
