Batticaloa District TNA MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam has submitted a motion to Parliament calling for the immediate repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), arguing that the controversial law has enabled arbitrary detention, torture and the targeting of minority communities for more than four decades.
In his motion, now published in the Addendum to the Order Book of Parliament, the MP urged the Government to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act, No. 48 of 1979, in its entirety and refrain from introducing any replacement legislation containing similar provisions.

A $2.5 million theft of public funds and the public will have to pay it.
Secretary confirmed: Whatever is not recovered will be on the people.
Outdated email server for years, basic management regulations and internal controls overlooked. Anti-money laundering flags ignored. CID & forensic audit now underway.
This is why we need proper systems. No more shifting blame.

This is a sickness... Why are we still giving visas to a country that does this to its own people?
There is no Hamas in the west bank and the IDF and settlers are terrorising Palestinians there.
The State just passed a law that will execute Palestinian prisoners. That's akin to the Sri Lankan government passing a law to execute tamil prisoners... A law based on ethnicity.
It's abhorrent.
@anuradisanayake@Dr_HariniA we implore you... Take a stand against this genocidal state.
No visas, no labour and no diplomatic ties with Israel until they behave like a nation deserving of the privileges of a nation state that abides by international law.
Take a principled stand.

These two Palestinian children—Mostafa, 8, and Khaled, 11—survived a massacre in the town of Tamoun after the Israeli army opened fire on their family while they were inside their car, killing their father, their mother, and their two younger brothers, aged 5 and 7.
I would like to ask those defending this government at every turn, twisting themselves into knots and sacrificing their dignity daily to explain away these allegations: If you can't then please tag your NPP MPs and see if even one of them will answer🙏🏽

23 years ago today, American peace activist Rachel Corrie was killed in Rafah, Gaza while trying to stop the demolition of Palestinian homes. She was brutally run over by an Israeli militarized bulldozer. She was 23.
“I wonder if any of the children here have ever existed without the tank-shells and the demolition.” Rachel Corrie said.
Today, much of the city she died to defend has been reduced to rubble.
RIP Rachel, may your memory inspire each of us to nurture the courage to stand in defense of others.
This is the country our govt signed an agreement to send people to.

Tear that up at least now. Time to kick them all out of our country!
Imagine an Iranian bomb had slaughtered 165 Israeli school kids.
Imagine the response of the Western media and politicians.
And note the lack of outrage and disgust here.
A man has been imprisoned, cut off from his family, deprived of the human rights that even prisoners are entitled to, and is now almost blind in one eye. Yet those who claim to be guardians of democracy are suddenly careful, cautious, and quiet. That tells its own story.
@ImranKhanPTI may stand alone in a cell, but the world is watching who truly stands for principle. And whenever voices grow louder calling for his release, he is punished further. The silence across the board is deafening. Strength and resolve to him, his family, and his friends as they face this test.

Public confidence is at a breaking point after the Akuregoda double murder. Brazen violence near defense sites demands more than words; we need a prompt, meaningful response from the Government and Security network to restore safety.
Audi alteram partem, “Hear the other side”. In any democracy, officials are given a hearing before they are punished.
The Speaker interdicting the Deputy Secretary General without even giving a hearing sets a dangerous precedent. And makes it feel very personl in nature.
This is very concerning and I will be strongly registering my protest in parliament on this issue.
