Former Valve developer Chet Faliszek is worried about Bungie’s future after the studio announced that Destiny 2’s final major update will arrive on June 9, 2026.
Discussing Bungie’s situation, Faliszek said, “I don’t think Sony cares anymore.” His comments follow years of layoffs, internal changes, and growing uncertainty at the studio.
Bungie’s future now depends heavily on Marathon. If the game doesnt do well, it could end the studio
Sony’s own financial reports show that PlayStation first-party game sales have fallen significantly since their peak in FY2020.
First-party game sales reached 58.4 million units in FY2020 before declining over the following years. While sales rebounded slightly in FY2025, they remain well below FY2020 levels.
Numbers by year:
- FY2020: 58.4 million units
- FY2021: 43.9 million units
- FY2022: 43.5 million units
- FY2023: 39.7 million units
- FY2024: 28.9 million units
- FY2025: 32.1 million units
Despite the FY2025 recovery, first-party game sales are still down about 45% from their FY2020 peak.

Can Xbox Still FIGHT VS Sony PlayStation!? https://t.co/7bOGCrwgBu via @YouTube
I've said this multiple times. The platform / brand matters most.
People just want to see XBOX compete again.
Words are cheap but so far I like what Asha is saying.
Asha Sharma: "That is part of what you are starting to see in the shift from Xbox to XBOX. It reflects a decision to be deliberate in how we show up for the players who care most about this brand."

Valve just raised Steam Deck OLED prices in the US while the devices are still out of stock, and the increase is insane
New prices:
512GB OLED: $549 → $789
1TB OLED: $649 → $949
A $949 Steam Deck now costs as much as some high-end gaming laptops and premium handheld PCs
