🐘 The Nigerian government has unveiled an elephant sculpture made from the remains of confiscated ivory and pangolin scales. The monument represents the government’s strict stance against wildlife crime and commitment to conservation efforts.

🥇 This first-of-its-kind sculpture was made from approximately six tonnes of seized wildlife items, including pangolin scales and animal skins that were incinerated at the end of 2023 and ivory that was crushed in early 2024.

🎤 Minister of Environment, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, spoke to the critical role of wildlife in Nigeria, emphasising, “We need wildlife for our survival, well-being, and prosperity as they maintain ecological balance, sustain the food chain, and keep us connected to nature.”
