Last week everyone shared a chart showing software engineer jobs are rising again. "The market is back," they wrote.

I opened the comments.

One dev asked how many of those jobs actually lead to hires. Another said the chart says nothing about seniority. A woman with 26 years of experience said 30 companies recently interviewed her and told her she wasn't senior enough.

I read about 200 JavaScript job postings every week on my board.

Senior and Staff dominate. Junior roles are rare. The "junior" roles that exist usually ask for 3+ years of production experience, which makes them not junior. Companies want people who can ship from day one with no ramp up. AI workflow experience is quietly expected even when it's not in the JD.

The chart is real. But most people are reading the wrong story from it.

More postings doesn't mean more hiring. And it doesn't mean the market came back for everyone.

If you're senior with shipped products and AI fluency, the chart is your chart.

If you're junior or mid level, you're looking at someone else's recovery.

That's where the real story is.
