FIFA rejecting Haiti’s jersey’s for being “too political” while allowing Israel to play, & the US to host World Cup (while denying visas, restricting entrance, banning Iranian players from staying in country) is a selective, targeted invocation of their “neutrality” policies.
So if I’m understanding this right, it really was previous leadership that put Bungie in the red. Sony isn’t why there isn’t a Destiny 3, it’s previous leadership
It's a good studio filled with the best people. When you're dealing with the rich "elite" making the calls, the purpose becomes self motivated. But passion has always driven Bungie and the players, it's just making sure that passion is healthy. People using studios as pawns for clout really bothers me, these are places with very real people that love the game just as much as the players do. I want people to keep in mind that the devs see all this conversation and that everyone, dev side and player side, keep mindfullness at the forefront when coming together. The conversations are good but we can't lose ourselves in them.
Have a little faith and if everyone's worst fears come then we'll worry about that then and send that studio off with so much love the world won't fuckin' know what to do with it all.
Only if you're looking at it from a consumer perspective. I've seen no one speak correctly about the details of the acquisition. Their value isn't SOLELY in Marathon but if Marathon is considered a failed project - which it has not at this time - then that puts them up for grabs for turning the Bungie name from a production studio and more into a service of expertise that would benefit the whole Sony network. But again, things could have changed since my time there. It's not just Bungie leadership that changed, a huge proponent of the live-service push from the Sony side also left, which changes the entire chessboard.
Big shakeups are happening in the tech and gaming space - I'm not going to say what I think is going to happen because it really doesn't matter what I think to be honest, but I still see the community from the CM lens and the Marathon community is eating good. Just remember how everything caught you by surprise, it's a humble reminder that the public really does have no idea what's going on (this applies to all studios). As somebody that knows exactly how that struggle can be the best thing you can do is support the studio in a way that feels good for you and learn tools to help you catch yourself when you feel like you're getting a little in the heavy side of thinking about things that you can't see or control so you don't kill the player passion inside of you. We have a lot of players that the passion died and they kept only going because it was feasible to do so, but passionless discourse is just noise.
