Today, Uganda AIDS COMMISSION in conjunction with Tooro Kingdom held a meeting of key stakeholders to renew commitment and design a new strategy to address the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Tooro. Officials from UAC hailed his Royal Highness @KingOyoOfficial for championing the fight against HIV as UNAIDS Ambassador for Fighting against HIV.
Rt HON Prime Minister, Owek Kiyingi Stephen Amooti said statistics don't lie and that the situation of 18% prevalence which is far above the national average of 5.2% was not only alarming but disheartening. Earlier in his opening remarks, Dr Beyeza Tito Abwoli Minister(Igatwa) of health highlighted key drivers of higher prevalence rates of HIV in Tooro Kingdom which include; Poverty in which some families survive on 1 meal a day, GBV among others.
Deputy Prime minister and Minister for Culture, Gender and Clan mobilization, Owek Abwoli Nyakake said the kingdom is renewing a vigorous campaign (oruramago) to sensitize the people about the scourge.
The dialogue was moderated by Dr @rmugahi99, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Reproductive and Infant Health at @MinofHealthUG.
