People will often defend their identity before they defend the truth. They may protect their pride/belief/image rather than admit that they were wrong. But being honest with yourself is more important than always being right. Choose truth over ego. Choose growth over pride

Give me a friend who is honest and straightforward even when it hurt, rather than someone who pretends to care while betraying me behind my back. At least honest leaves room for truth.
