PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES MARYAM IBRAHIM DAN’ AZUMI ON WINNING KING ABDULAZIZ INTERNATIONAL QUR’ANIC COMPETITION

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Maryam Ibrahim Dan’ Azumi, a remarkable daughter of Gombe State and a proud Nigerian, for emerging as the winner in the women’s category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A statement by the Special Adiviser to the President, Information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga commends Maryam for her exceptional performance and mastery of the Holy Qur’an at the prestigious international competition held in the holy city of Makkah.

The statement notes that she beat her competitors from 132 other countries, earning a 300,000 Saudi Riyal prize, the equivalent of N120 million.

It further adds that Maryam’s accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but also a source of national pride, as she has placed Nigeria prominently on the global stage through her mastery of the Holy Qur’an.

President Tinubu describes Maryam and her elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan Azumi, who came first in a similar competition in Jordan in 2024, as inspiration to young Nigerians.

The President particularly commends their parents, teachers, mentors and all those who contributed to their development and success, recognising the sacrifices and commitment required to attain such an exceptional level of Qur’anic scholarship.

President Tinubu also appreciates the organisers and authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for providing a distinguished international platform that promotes excellence in Qur’anic memorisation, recitation, understanding and scholarship.

Maryam Ibrahim Dan Azumi’s victory in the highly competitive category covering memorisation of the entire Holy Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation of all 60 Hizb with Tafsir is a remarkable achievement that has brought immense honour to Nigeria and further demonstrated the excellence, discipline, dedication and intellectual capacity of Nigerian youths.

“She has made Nigeria proud. Her achievement in Makkah is a powerful testimony to what our young people can accomplish when talent is matched with discipline, faith, hard work and dedicated mentorship.

The President, on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, congratulates Maryam on this remarkable victory. May Almighty Allah continue to guide, protect and increase her in knowledge and wisdom, and may her achievement inspire many more young Nigerians to pursue excellence.”

He wishes Maryam continued success as she advances in her Qur’anic scholarship and in all her future endeavours. It concludes.

I have avoided commenting, and then you say this, boom. I am commenting.

It's one thing for a person to say "I want to wear my attachment because I like it", it's another for a person to say "I don't trust that hadith".

"I don't trust that hadith" is not only an indictment, it's also a declaration that calls for refutation.

Ask any student of knowledge, even the Shaykh Pantami you quote, if he was faced with a person that said "I don't trust that hadith", knowledge etiquette requires him to address the accusation of the authenticity of the hadith, not her reaction.

The moment she made it about the authenticity of the hadith, the moment she shifted the entire discussion about the integrity of the hadith.

And when that is the case, how people respond is directly relative to how they value and uphold Islamic knowledge.

For most people, her position translated into "she's denying the prophet said it".

Good luck trying to chastise people that have entered that realm.

There are senstivities you touch that when you get the reaction you do, you have no one to blame but yourself.

All you people that seem to think you're keeping a level head, is because you have no idea the weight and implication of something when it comes to its culture in religious knowledge.

She got exactly the reaction she deserved. Nothing more nothing less.

If you all want different responses, start thinking twice before you spew nonsense.
