I am happy to share https://t.co/sdtokJEQfF, a website exploring incarceration data built at @recursecenter by me and @corintxt. Ending mass incarceration is imperative and I believe being able to visualize the numbers and disparities is helpful in building the necessary support.

This has been the most rewarding project I have had the luck to work on. The actual engineering and science was incredibly interesting, and the output is delightful to explore. I can’t wait to see what folks do with this FREE resource!!
with @Esri and @Microsoft_Green, we've been hard at work this past year working on a global land use / land cover map, built with #sentinel2, at 10 meter resolution. today, it's live!
the best part? it's OPEN DATA, so you can get it for free right now!

@venikunche I like the idea of trying to make interviewing less biased (obv) and I think that is the goal of using a third party interviewer like karat but as someone who has a hard time coding with someone watching and not speaking, it really was hard for me to show my skills.
@venikunche I have done two interviews with Karat that were more like tech screens. It was odd because the interviewer wasn’t allowed to participate much so I felt like I was just taking a test with someone watching. I would have preferred just taking a timed test.
As an alum, I am withholding my support — including time, money, & volunteer hours — until @CarletonCollege demonstrates a serious, sustained commitment to dismantle racism and anti-Blackness on its campus #letters4carleton#BlackStudentsMatter Read this: https://t.co/jn7Pgkvaqz

The Institute developed a web-based tool for the SF Bay Conservation & Development Commission called the Bay Shoreline Flood Explorer to help Bay Area denizens understand how sea-level rise will impact their communities and resources. This work was just featured in the Chronicle.
the thing is that it's SO NORMAL to make it 5 or 10 or 15 years in your programming career without learning something that seems "basic" about how a computer thing works. And it's both:
1. good to learn some of these "basic" things
2. totally okay to not have learned it yet!
This is definitely a geo-week, @MaptimeSF on Tuesday, GeoMeetup on Wednesday, and Oakland GeoBeers Thursday! How lucky are we??
