Coffee fuelled mama, teacher and opinionated Irish exile in Edinburgh. Passionate about social justice and improving mental health care for all. 🌈Views my own.
Boy walks into reception late for school.
Receptionist says ‘late again!’
Enters building. Passing member of staff says ‘are you late again?’
On his way to class, someone else asks him for a minute. ‘Are you ok?’ They say.
Boy confides that he has no bed. 4 children in a 2 bedroom house. Mum has late nights and he gets himself ready.
Good to consider how we may greet some children in a morning.
Big 4 bank profits were up 700% in first half of this year compared to 2020, so I’ve just asked the Chancellor to introduce a windfall tax on banks’ excess profits, to fund support for households struggling with energy & housing costs
If you agree he should please RT! 🙏
@Siobhain_Mc@UKLabour@Siobhain_Mc we lost our beautiful sister Sarah to this horrible disease in 2016 at the age of 30. I’ve just been so moved listening to you on @BBCWomansHour Sending love and strength to you for your grief journey and also for this fight to improve funding. Standing with you.
Imagine being a vulnerable young person in @NHS_Lothian or @LothianChildren and being told that the @NavigatorYouth service, which has been your lifeline since 2021, is closing due to lack of funding. This is a devastating blow to the mental health and wellbeing of our youth.
This cannot be overstated. The longer I work in psychiatry, the more & more I’m constantly reminded that one of the most harmful factors affecting our mental health (if not the most harmful factor) is poverty.
@Glinner With another human being. There isn’t a young child in sight in that picture. People who abuse children are much more likely to blend in and be hidden in plain sight.
@Glinner So much hate stirred up by items of clothing…that is the sad thing here. I’ve never read comments with such a lack of compassion, kindness or any attempt at empathy. The vitriol is terrifying, not the outfit.
The EIS strike action will go ahead as planned tomorrow and Wednesday. The dates for our 20 days of rolling strike action have also been approved and are available on our website: https://t.co/IqD9jPy7vA
Teachers do not want to be striking, & would much rather be in class working to support young people’s education – but, having been compelled to take strike action by the inaction of Scot Govt & COSLA on pay, Scotland’s teachers are not going to back down #EISStrike#PayAttention
