🚨 AI companies are trying to use their vast, ill-gotten wealth to buy a change to the law in Australia.

They say they will invest in data centers *if* the Australian government hands them the work of Australian creatives. This is a grotesque abuse of power.

'Funds to compensate artists' offered in exchange are a frankly offensive proposition. They would force artists to hand over their life's work for well below what it is worth.

Artists' work is not the government's to give away to the biggest companies in the world.

RouteNote, a platform that lets you distribute your music to Spotify etc., is automatically opting its users into an AI licensing deal with Meta.

They say “This is your choice”, and give you 14 days to opt out - but lots of users will miss this email & therefore miss the chance to opt out. Their music will be used to train Meta’s AI models without them realising. This isn’t a real choice.

AI training deals *must* seek opt-in consent from musicians. Opt-out is good for AI companies (more music to train on!) but terrible for musicians.

@TheMG3D wish this was true in the Netherlands, seems like people are fully falling for the propaganda. I hate it so much, even the banks are using it. There was a scandal years ago about ai getting tax stuff wrong and people were mad but have forgotten it already
