@arnesa_kustura True but they probably meant at face value, perhaps because it’s not as in your face / loud. Like how you can sit next to someone in the tube with all that you’ve highlighted and not know. In an African country, that person wouldn’t even be using public transport.
May I recommend some reading for you that treats Black South Africans under apartheid not only as subjects of oppression but as producers of capital, ideas, institutions, and culture. These texts will hopefully take your mind off the racist stereo type of Blacks as either victims or spies/criminals. They foreground the entrepreneurial, professional and intellectual traditions of the Black middle class and intelligentsia. Some got scholarships or could, on their own, afford Hilton, Redhill, Rodean, Michael House, etc. Some Black professionals were also sponsored to attend these schools by churches, Philanthropies, parents' bosses, etc. Back to the reading list:
1) Sean Morrow, Brown Maaba & Loyiso Pulumani: Education, Race and Class:
# Bernard Magubane ;The political economy of Race and Class in South Africa
# I especially love Tshepo Moloi's articles on
African traders and township economies
Moloi’s work is among the clearest directly on Black entrepreneurship.
And my favourite!!!!
# Philip Bonner & Lauren Segal's Soweto: A History. It is arguably one of the best empirical studies of Black wealth under apartheid.
These texts will help you understand the sheer ingenuity of creating wealth and education DESPITE constraints.
We must read.. or we risk being subjected to the malice of ignorant commentators.
@Bonny_Swarez Natural. I was up and walking about outside by day 2. But I also live in the U.K. & they strongly encourage natural over c-section here.
@Phefadu_G @NolwAzi_Tusini Loads actually & with longevity. Trustee of the Nelson Mandela foundation, Starfish foundation, HIV activist, scholarships for young women, etc. Even to say they are on par proves Shudu isn’t “most successful”.
When you’re up against challenges that seem too big, dreams that look impossible, you’ll be tempted to worry, live stressed, complain. But the best thing you can do is give God praise. It may be too much for you, but it’s not too much for Him.
