How is liver metabolism linked to diabetes type 2?🧬

This year’s conference spotlights the connection between diabetes and liver health. The rising global incidence of fatty liver disease – and its role in the onset and progression of diabetes – makes this a critical area of research.

Prof. Anja Zeigerer is co-host of the conference and researcher at #HelmholtzMunich and the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University. Her research focuses on liver metabolism – uncovering how nutrient transport at the molecular level drives metabolic diseases like diabetes and obesity.

🎥 Watch the video below to hear Anja Zeigerer explain why understanding liver metabolism is key to tackling type 2 diabetes ⬇️

New posting! This has some reflections on the scandal at the 2023 Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting, where a Laureate complained of being discriminated against as a white man. Unusually, a courageous young scientist actually called him out on it. #WomenInSTEM

Happy to share the final version of this paper!

We found mechanisms that make receptor signalling dependent on membrane lipids and specific nanodomains. EGFR signaling becomes cholesterol, flotillin, and c-Src dependent when HER2 is co-expressed.
