we often talk about how mika brings out brentʼs goofy and makulit side and how she can make him do things he wouldnʼt normally do, and i agree. but long before that, it was actually the other way around because it was brent who first made efforts to bring out mikaʼs bubbly and madaldal side.

there was a time when brent was the yapper and mika was the listener. mika used to be quiet, shy, and awkward, or as brent said, “hindi makabasag pinggan.” at one point, her reticence was even perceived in an unfavorable light by some people. on the other hand, brent, despite being introverted to the core, took the initiative to get to know mika by constantly making small talks with her, her one-word replies never stopping him from trying. he would practically invent topics just to get her to speak with him. remember the iconic “do you think likeable ba ako?” that was very random, but in hindsight, for brent, who was full of self-assurance, to ask mika, of all the housemates, that question could only mean that he was curious about her perception of him, as if her opinion was the only thing that mattered. not only that, he would also often tease her or make fun of her just to get a reaction. one of the earliest instances that come to mind is “mika salamanca, sa harap daw.”

all the things he did, either consciously or not, just so he could slowly crack the walls she had put up and ultimately break all of them down until she became comfortable in her own skin and started yapping and be makulit too. and look at them after that and even now in the outside world. he appears to have returned to his shell, quiet and reserved, except in the rare moments when he shows his goofy and makulit side, which seems to automatically come out when heʼs with her.

so yes, “us on a daily basis” perfectly sums up their dynamic as the yapper and listener duo, where mika is the yapper and brent is the listener, but once upon time, it was the other way around. :)

“i celebrate u today and everyday” a man of few words, brent was able to deliver the message and at the same time make a promise in just one sentence.

itʼs easy for people to celebrate you when youʼre winning, like mika is now, but itʼs rare to find someone who will stay with you when you have nothing to offer, which is what mika used to be when she entered the pbb house. yet on both occasions, brent was there. he embraced her when the world turned its back on her and didnʼt care about the bad comments that people were saying about her. in a game with a duo system where one affects the other and vice versa, and the general public opinion matters, he decided right off the bat that he wanted to be final duos with arguably the most hated housemate that time. he saw her beyond the moniker; he saw her heart. so itʼs very satisfying that he gets to celebrate her now that sheʼs thriving as he was the first person who believed in her inside that house even when she didnʼt believe in herself. he celebrated her even on her bad days, he celebrates her on her good days, and he promises to be there for her every day—on both good days and bad days.

what made his birthday greeting for her extra special was the unexpected post. sure, everyone expected him to greet her publicly, probably through an instagram story or a comment on her own birthday post, but nobody expected him to make a birthday post for her, one that doesnʼt disappear after 24 hours but stays “permanent” for everyone to see and keep going back to, unless archived or deleted. everyone knows brentʼs instagram page is a curated portfolio of luxury brands and endorsements, and then suddenly, thereʼs that very out of place personal post of him celebrating mikaʼs birthday. he carved out a space just for her because she deserves to be flaunted and celebrated. from a series of posts of himself looking glamorous and sophisticated in louis vuitton, gucci, and dior, to a post where heʼs barefoot and wearing “pambahay” clothes with that short but very impactful caption. for someone whoʼs known to be vain, he clearly didnʼt mind how he looked that day as long as she looked pretty in her black dress. he made sure all attention was on her. oh boy, i can only imagine how the whole thing looks in the eyes of the big brands that are following him and people who donʼt know much about the two of them. 🤭

and i love how intimate, low-key, and quiet their celebration was. both are known partygoers, yet they chose to celebrate in a private place with their closest friends, the people who truly matter. after all, love isnʼt always about the grand gestures; itʼs about the little things done consistently and being there for the other person even when itʼs inconvenient, 𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 when itʼs inconvenient—something that brent has already been doing for mika since they first met inside the house seven months ago.
