Top down as always. And people agree to go on these panels like it's an honour or privilege. 'Oooh, the government have chosen me!!!' Why is education run as a democracy-free zone? Not even a pretence of the representative principle!
It's always a pleasure to meet up with @HaringeyLP in Parliament! Thank you Mia & Amario for being such passionate, eloquent advocates for the importance of all children globally having the chance to go to school @sendmyfriend@appgglobaled
SEN is a policy decision, not an innate way of being.
It’s defined by the gap between the needs of a child & what their school can typically provide.
Are there more children with SEN, or is the provision gap widening due to an increasingly exclusive education system?
My son's school attendance was above 95%. He never avoided going to school, he always braved it. He would lie on the bed after school, recovering from overwhelming days of 'peopling'. He was tormented for being 'weird'. He was 15 when he ended his own life. #ItsNotOKToNotBeOK
You might think ‘well we are not talking about you or those like you’ when discussing ‘school skivers’. But you are.
92.1% of those with school attendance difficulties are neurodivergent. 83.4% are autistic. (Connolly et al. 2023).
Your words target neurodivergent kids.
As someone whose school attendance was once 22%, I feel upset every time I see the government insisting that children must attend school & parents being fined. It is a relentless campaign against neurodivergent kids - because 92% of those struggling to attend school are ND.
Well done Leicestershire NHS!
I don’t know who wrote or complied this resource but it’s so valuable!

This is Jessie.
Systemic failures in Health and Social Care led to her death.
What are the authorities going to learn from her death and change in that failed system?
Because other autistic young people are still being failed.
🗣️ “Any child that looks slightly like they’re going to be a problem…they're excluding them.”
A senior council officer has spoken to @NickMartinSKY lifting the lid on her experiences in an education system she says discriminates against children with special educational needs👇

Huge congratulations to my brother @Luke_Turner for successfully defending himself against internet bullies Nina Power and DC Miller. Full judgement linked to in Luke's thread.
I am delighted to report that I have successfully defended the libel claim brought against me in the High Court by Nina Power and Daniel ‘DC’ Miller, which I have been fighting for over four years.
My full statement on today's Judgment can be read here: https://t.co/BuUHzlToD0
Please can we stop making childhood and adolescence a race?
Child development isn’t a competition to see who can attain, behave, perform or self-regulate the best and the quickest.

Presently, a person can be forcibly detained under the Mental Health Act simply because they are autistic.
Autism is not a mental health condition. This archaic legislation must be changed.
We're concerned that safety valve agreements between @educationgovuk and individual LAs are a way of reducing children/YP’s rights by the back door. Strict requirement to cut costs risks restricting children/YP's access to provision they need.

I only need 77 more followers to reach 5000.
If I was an animal rights campaigner I'm sure I'd have millions more, but I campaign to uphold the human rights of children, especially children with Additional Support Needs and Disabilities, so I have to work harder.
