Minecraft just has the core, terraria expands out adding in rpg mechanics
And imo, it has far better motivation for building your base than minecraft because it has utility beyond looking pretty and building more buildings

Especially post moonlord, it just sucked balls because you do nothing but kill bosses and mine ores (plus meaningless even repetition after DOG)
