After a very helpful 121 session with Hattie Grunewald, I believe my submission package is significantly improved โ and I have useful advice on what to avoid in my writing. Thank you Hattie, and thank you Elane and Sarah @IAmInPrint for organising this!
@cbcreative @kirstycapes โIโm not in loveโ. I cover my ears. But the song still echoes in my head. 'So if I call you Donโt make a fuss'. The elevator music used to amuse me โ now I am relieved to push the door and step out of it. I stand in front of his door. I take a breath. The corridor lights go out.
@cbcreative@thestephmerritt I open the window, the room breaths; the smell of linseed oil has infiltrated the wooden window frames, the black and white floor tiles. Sunlight flickers on the surface of the canal,on the passersby on the street. I hear the knock on the door; the painting depends on her letter.
@cbcreative@mserinkelly โSo what do you want, to lock me up as if I were a lunatic?โ She presses her wrists in invisible handcuffs, her fists so tight her knuckles will burst. She barely holds back her tears. Her motherโs clenched hands a barrier, half-concealing her face; her eyes stare, icy cold.
@CGNelsonwrites "As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery."
And the last lines:
And if you find her poor, Ithaka wonโt have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
youโll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.
@cbcreative@Mrssmithmunday Iโve seen so many photos lately, people communicating with their loved ones with signs through windows, unable to meet. Maybe write a sign? HELLO! Something smarter. ET phone home. Break the boredom. And who knows? Love works in mysterious ways-in such mysterious times.#WriteCBC
@cbcreative@StephT2000 As soon as it got dark, Iโd check the windowโwas it shut tight? Iโd hide under the blanket and hear all the creaks and crawls on the roof above my headโhoping that if anyone peeked inside, he wouldnโt spot me. But still I wondered: what if I got out on the roof tonight?#WriteCBC
