🚨 REMEMBER THIS IPID CASE AGAINST GEN NHLANHLA MKHWANAZI?

■ In March 2025🗓, #IPID wrote to KZN Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla #Mkhwanazi, requesting a statement in connection with allegations that he had interfered in the arrest of a senior Correctional Services official in eMpangeni.

■ The IPID letter stated that the complaint had been received from then Police Minister Senzo #Mchunu .

‼️ Then came the confusion.

■ IPID later backtracked😁, saying it had made an “error” by identifying Mchunu as the complainant and that the complaint had actually come from an #anonymous member of the public.🙄

■ Mchunu also released a statement denying lodging the complaint against Gen Mkhwanazi.🤡

■ The allegation against Gen Mkhwanazi arose from his intervention in a matter involving Nelly Ndlovu (former senior Correctional Services official) after alleged contraband was reportedly found in a dustbin accessible to multiple people.

■ Gen Mkhwanazi's position was that there was no reliable basis to simply attribute the alleged contraband to Ndlovu personally.

■ That intervention was later turned into a weapon and an allegation that Gen Mkhwanazi had interfered with or obstructed Ndlovu's arrest.

🗓APRIL 2025, THE IPID INVESTIGATION AGAINST GEN MKHWANAZI WAS WITHDRAWN🤷🏿‍♀️

Gen. Mkhwanazi later said an IPID official travelled to Durban and handed him an #unsigned letter withdrawing the investigation, informing him that he no longer needed to provide a response.

The questions remain:

■ Who actually lodged the complaint against Gen Mkhwanazi?

■ Why did an official IPID letter identify Mchunu as the complainant in the first place👀, only for IPID to later call this an “error”? Really?

■ Why was the investigation subsequently withdrawn?

■ Why was Gen Mkhwanazi investigated for questioning the basis of an arrest where the alleged contraband was reportedly found in a place accessible to multiple people?

The deserves another look. 👀

Some thoughts on News24's coverage of Andrea Johnson: Certain News24 editors, including those I've worked with before, have a bad habit of black-and-white thinking, creating heroes and villains. This means they overidentify with their sources and go beyond interrogating the facts fairly to trying to defend them at all costs. We saw it with Pravin Gordhan, John Steenhuisen to some extent and even in how they reported the vaccine negotiations during Covid between big pharma and government: it was very clear they were getting their info from the pharmaceutical companies given the slant of reporting. I'd say something similar is happening here. Not all News24 editors and journos obviously, some excellent people across the publicatio. But strands of this keeps emerging driven by certain people at the top who I've seen do this before, firsthand. It's remnants of a Naspers Us-VS-Them laager mentality and not particularly logical.
