""主人公に恋愛感情を抱いているキャラがいない""

各キャラが主人公に向けているのは、あくまで一人の人間としての好意や信頼。
今のところ一番距離が近いミントですら、その関係は「恋人」ではなく「大親友」という距離感に収まっている。

デートイベントでも、深まっていくのは「恋」ではなく「絆」。
主人公と過ごすことで相手を知り、信頼関係が生まれていく。

もちろん、RPGに恋愛要素があること自体を否定するつもりはない。
物語の中心に圧倒的な一人のヒロインがいて、そのキャラとの出会いから恋愛、そして結末までを一本のストーリーとして描くのであれば、恋愛も作品を構成する大きな魅力になり得る。

ただ、何十人ものキャラを追加していくソシャゲでは、それをやるのは難しい。

多くのキャラが次々と主人公に恋をしてしまうと、いつしか「そのキャラ自身の物語」よりも「主人公を好きになること」がキャラの魅力として前面に出てしまう。
せっかくそれぞれに人生や目的、人間関係があるのに、最終的に全員が主人公を中心に回り始めると、世界そのものが狭く見えてしまう。

NTEのキャラたちは、主人公と出会う前からそれぞれの人生を歩んできていて、主人公以外の人物とも深く関係を築いている。
主人公はその世界の中心というより、彼女たちの人生に関わっていく一人の人間という立ち位置に近い。

だからこそ、各キャラが「主人公のために存在している」のではなく、一人の人間としてこの世界で生きているように感じられる。
そして我々プレイヤーも、主人公を通して彼女たちと同じ世界に立ち、ヘテロシティで暮らしているかのような感覚に没入できる。

イチャラブやハーレムを楽しみたいなら、それに特化したギャルゲーはいくらでもある。
多くのユーザーがオープンワールドRPGに求めているのはそこではない。

主人公との恋愛は、ユーザー側が勝手に妄想すればいい。

公式にはキャラ同士の関係性や、その人物自身の人生をしっかり描いてもらう。
そのうえでプレイヤーが好きな解釈をする余白を残しておく。

その距離感こそ、NTEのキャラ描写の素晴らしい点だと思う。
