The crystal engineering research group led by Prof. Mike Zaworotko. Main interests are metal-organic materials and multi-component pharmaceutical materials. @UL
@HolmanChemistry Likewise saddened + shocked to hear of Rob's passing. First met Rob in Canada 15+ years ago + multiple times since including the Crystal Engineering GRC in 2018.
What are MOFs and related materials good for?
Hydrocarbon separations is one answer as detailed in an in-depth review by @ZGroupUL in Adv Materials:
https://t.co/uC3x50dvsh
In short:
- The field has come an awfully long way since the 2000s
- It is complicated
D-Day 2026 in Limerick = January 28th
The first @zgroupUL daffodil is now in bloom. Seems early but this reverses the trend:
D-Day 2025 = Jan 14
D-Day 2024 = Jan 23
D-Day 2023 = Feb 4
D-Day 2022 = Feb 3
@NobelPrize The @ZGroupUL team is delighted + inspired + congratulates our friends. Ties go back to the earliest days of MOFs and continue today. Shown below:
- ICMAT (2003 Singapore, Susumu + Richard + a few well-known faces)
- NATO-ARW (1995 Colorado, Tony Coleman + a very young Omar).
Better, greener tandem catalysis enabled by "COFcap-2"
@zgroupUL + Profs ZZ, Yao of https://t.co/xXW1975VIn report in @naturecomms:
https://t.co/TpiQg9HXoK
Homochiral amines inc. R-sitagliptin + 3 drug product intermediates use N2 as NH3 source
If general, stay tuned for more
Flexible sorbents of all types (molecular + 1D + network) are๐ to study + can have ๐ถ๏ธproperties.
@zgroupUL members @KKoupepidou + @sbnbkv have just published a feature article on functional flexible sorbents in @ChemComm: https://t.co/6FTIPBS8Ku
That is 2 papers in <24 h for KK!
Transient porosity in a closed pore solid reported by @zgroupul + @MukherjeeChem in @angew_chem: https://t.co/U7k5kJJACV
Congrats @KKoupepidou for never giving up on this sorbent + @Barbour_Group@MACATAMO_Group who provided insight into sorption mechanism (angular linker = ๐)
D-Day 2025 in Limerick = January 14th
The first @zgroupUL daffodil is now in bloom. If this seems a little early, it is.
For the record:
D-Day 2024 = Jan 23
D-Day 2023 = Feb 4
D-Day 2022 = Feb 3
1D coordination polymer + H-bonds + pi stacking = MOF as reported in @J_A_C_S by @zgroupUL and @brianbspace: https://t.co/uaM2NAX7Qa
Congrats to @alan_eaby + co-authors for revealing how this understudied but potentially vast family of materials can serve as H2O and CO2 sorbents.
Sam's SAM has unusual water vapor sorption properties + strange guest-induced structural transformations. Read in @ACSMatLett: https://t.co/0uucD2C3ce
Congrats to all @zgroupUL and @MACATAMO_Group authors on 2025 paper #1, especially @SamM_Shabangu for his first 1st author paper.
A new linker ligand + 3 coordination polymers reported by @ZGroupUL in @CGD_ACS@jjvittal special issue:
https://t.co/wSY8iMGkmc
Published on Xmas day = cool
Made by mechanochem or slurry = green
1st author an undergrad = priceless
Congrats to Maria๐ฎ๐ช + @sbnbkv๐ฐ๐ฌ + @alan_eaby๐ฟ๐ฆ
They might be checking out, but they will never really leave.
@zgroupul says bon voyage to @KKoupepidou +@XiaLi_Lisa who soon depart for ๐ฏ๐ต +๐จ๐ณ for the next chapter.
Both are great researchers and consummate team players which augurs well for their futures.
@fxcoudert @CUP1953@NatureChemistry @BernalNews @ChemicalSciUL Ur correct FX (or should we call u StFX). The wrong cif was submitted. It will be corrected.
We ๐ ultramicroporous materials. A lot.
@ZGroupUL delighted to report with YL Peng of @CUP1953 in @NatureChemistry on sieving of C3 gases by a hybrid azolate framework, HAF-1, that has just the right pore size: https://t.co/AhJs2mC0MF
Doing different things feels pretty good.
๐จ๐ณ 2024 visit by @zgroupul just over with lecture at China University of Petroleum, Beijing campus. Thanks YunLei Peng for being a great host.
2 weeks of literal blue skies + beyond blue sky research in Lanzhou, Xi'an, Beijing and Tianjin.
Looking forward to 1 or 2 2025 visits.
Crystal engineering has come a long way both geographically and scientifically.
The first CELTIC China meeting was held on 11/03 in historic, beautiful Xi"an.
Past + present @ZGroupUL members joined by Chen Xiao-Ming + family to enjoy great people + porous materials chemistry.
Travel in 2024 concludes with ๐จ๐ณ starting in Lanzhou. @ZGroupUL and @MukherjeeChem present lectures @iLZU1909. Wang Wei and Chen Shoushun are thanked for being such great hosts. Looking forward to future engagements.
Off we go now to Xi'an for the first CELTIC in ๐จ๐ณ meeting.
Two days of sunshine, porous materials and people chemistry. A great way to spend a weekend - the 3rd Texas Pore Engineering Conference hosted by @MiljanicGroup + @UH_RimerGroup at @UHouston. Kicked off by @GroupZhou (20th Oct), closing shortly with a presentation by @zgroupUL.
