BMA ARRESTS AN OFFICIAL ON CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS AND POSSESSION OF 22 PASSPORTS
The Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA), Dr Michael Masiapato, confirms the arrest of a 56-year-old BMA official stationed at the Maseru Port of Entry with Lesotho, following an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the BMA Integrity Management Unit, the Department of Home Affairs Counter Corruption Unit, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Ladybrand Detectives and K9 Unit, and Crime Intelligence Free State.
The arrest took place just over 10 days after the fifth instalment of the Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign, hosted under the Border Management and Immigration Anti-Corruption Forum at OR Tambo International Airport. The operation was initiated after information was received from the State Security Agency regarding several Lesotho nationals' passports that had been placed under monitoring. Intelligence indicated that the passports had allegedly been transported from Limpopo to Ladybrand for the purpose of unlawfully being stamped and extending their visa validity and stay in the Republic of South Africa without the passport holders being physically present, as required by law.
Acting on this information, law enforcement authorities conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of the BMA official. At the time of the arrest, the official was allegedly found in possession of 22 stamped passports belonging to Lesotho nationals, without the lawful holders being present, as well as R2 100 in cash.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and is expected to appear before the Ladybrand Magistrate's Court on charges relating to corruption, possession of passports without lawful authority, and immigration-related offences. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests have not been ruled out.
Since the establishment of the BMA three years ago, more arrests of officials have taken place under the leadership and direction of Commissioner Masiapato.

The Post Office has long held a contentious exclusivity licence to deliver small packages weighing under 1kg in the country.
Due to the state company’s failure to fulfil its mandate effectively and efficiently over more than a decade, private couriers and delivery companies have quickly filled the gap.

NEW DIRECTOR STEPS INTO R3.8TRN GIANT
Werksmans Attorneys director Bulelwa Mabasa has been appointed as a non-executive director of the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), Africa’s largest asset manager.
Her appointment comes as the state-owned investment manager continues rebuilding its board following a series of resignations linked to governance concerns and ongoing investigations.
Mabasa, a respected land reform and constitutional law expert, joins three other new board members approved by Cabinet.
The PIC manages more than R3.8-trillion in assets, largely on behalf of the Government Employees Pension Fund.
The expanded board now faces major challenges, including regulatory probes, oversight of the PIC’s investment strategy, and restoring stability and confidence in one of South Africa’s most important financial institutions.

HABITUAL CELLPHONE PICK-POCKETERS ARRESTED AT MENLYN MALL IN PRETORIA
The victim narrates her ordeal:
"I went to mall with my daughter and my man. My daughter was wearing some pink outfit so people kept playing with her from when we entered Ackermans then after we went to Mr Price kids, exact and then pnp clothing. I don’t know they followed me from where.
When we were at pnp the one with orange dress kept on looking at me from far I even thought she was playing with my daughter but she had a straight face. I even tell my man that this lady keeps on looking at us weird but I never took it seriously. Then I moved to bra aisle then that’s when they came and take out my phone from the pocket. I ddint feel thier presence next to me I just felt my phone leaving my pocket that’s when I turned immediately.
I caused a scene for days screaming at them that I want my phone then they denied taking it. People came and called security and all of a sudden the one with braids said there is your phone under the clothes on the opposite aisle, she threw it there fast. Yoh I lost it and everything happened there quickly and some lady who worked there said they can give us cctv footage because they are denying everything. Security called police but because they took time to come I wrote affidavit of what happened and they held them at the security room waiting for the police. Those security guards said those girls are regulars there because they’ve been arresting them for many times now they just don’t stop"

GOVERNMENT DROPS WIND AND SOLAR
The SA government has unveiled a major shift in South Africa's energy strategy, prioritising 9,600MW of new capacity from battery storage and gas-fired power while excluding new wind and solar projects from its latest procurement plan.
Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said the move is aimed at addressing growing challenges caused by surplus electricity and increasing renewable energy curtailment on the grid.
The plan includes 4,600MW of battery storage and 5,000MW of gas-to-power generation over the 2026 to 2037 period.
Batteries will store excess electricity for use during peak demand, while gas plants will provide reliable backup power when needed.
The Independent Power Producer Office will oversee both programmes, which will also be open to Eskom, marking a significant shift in South Africa's evolving energy landscape.

THE DAILY PRACTICE
THE QUESTION
What if the story you keep telling about your life is the very thing keeping you stuck?
THE PARADOX
An explanation can be true and still become an excuse. What happened to you may explain your behaviour, but the explanation does not remove the responsibility for what you do next.
THE MIRROR
Where have you become more committed to defending your pattern than changing it?
THE SHIFT
Your growth begins when you stop asking, “Why am I like this?” and start asking, “How long am I willing to remain like this?”. It will begin when you refuse to allow your explanations to incapacitate your actions.
THE PRACTICE
Write down one excuse you repeat often.
Now remove every reason, person, and circumstance from the sentence.
What remains must begin with:
“I am choosing…”
Read it back to yourself.
Then ask:
Am I still willing to own this choice?
