Viral Japanese posts today are citing a Taiwanese TV news video claiming that an 11-year-old Kyoto boy was murdered by his "Chinese stepfather."
Japanese language media outlets have been reporting that the suspect is the boy's father, and have reported a Japanese name, Adachi.
There has been no confirmation from a Japanese media outlet that the man was from China or had Chinese citizenship. Even the tabloid media, which might jump at a chance to attract attention with a story about foreign crime, is not claiming the suspect is a foreigner.
The case has received a lot of attention because about 1,000 police officers were mobilized to search nearby mountains back when the young boy was reported "missing." It was a major national news story.
It's not clear how this Taiwanese media outlet came to the conclusion that the suspect is a Chinese citizen. If their report turns out to be completely false, there will probably still be many Japanese internet users who will insist that the mainstream media lied about the man being a Japanese person.
