The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, has reaffirmed the country's commitment to advancing intra-African trade following the 18th Meeting of the Council of Ministers Responsible for Trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Abuja, Nigeria.
The high-level meeting focused on key trade issues, including tariff harmonisation, trade in agricultural products, and measures to strengthen continental economic integration.
Zimbabwe also secured the honour of hosting the next AfCFTA Council of Ministers Responsible for Trade meeting, underscoring the country's growing role in shaping Africa's trade agenda.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, this Monday, where he is leading the Zimbabwe delegation to the 18th Meeting of the Council of Ministers Responsible for Trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), scheduled for 30 June 2026.
During the Ministerial session, Council members will consider the report of the Senior Trade Officials and deliberate on key strategic issues affecting the implementation of the AfCFTA, including emerging global trade policy developments and their implications for Africa's trade, industrialisation, and economic integration.
Zimbabwe remains committed to advancing regional cooperation and supporting the AfCFTA as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth, expanded intra-African trade, and sustainable development across the continent.

This year’s event was running under the theme Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063.
This Monday, H.E. President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa received a courtesy call from Dr. Donald Kaberuka, the African Union (AU) High Representative for Financing the Union and the Peace Fund, who is currently conducting consultations with key stakeholders across the continent on progress in strengthening the African Union's financial sustainability.
During the discussions, H.E. President Mnangagwa commended Dr. Kaberuka for his tireless efforts to advance initiatives to restore the African Union’s financial autonomy and reduce dependence on external funding.
The President reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s support for ongoing institutional reforms designed to strengthen the AU’s capacity to sustainably finance its programmes, peace and security operations, and development agenda, and emphasized that a financially self-reliant African Union is critical to advancing the continent’s aspirations for greater unity, resilience, and ownership of its development priorities.
The meeting also underscored the importance of collective commitment by Member States in ensuring the successful implementation of mechanisms that promote long-term financial sustainability for the Union.
The 2026 Africa Public Service Day Commemorations are currently underway at Chinhoyi University of Technology in Mashonaland West Province, bringing together Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, development partners, academia, civil society organisations and members of the public to celebrate excellence, innovation and dedication in public service delivery.
Held under the theme, "Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Safe Sanitation by 2063," the commemorations provide a platform to showcase public sector achievements, foster collaboration among stakeholders and reaffirm Government's commitment to building a responsive, efficient and citizen-centred public service in line with Africa's development aspirations.
