My paper finally made it out of pre-print! Check it out https://t.co/ehAVaaR45e I have to say the whole editorial and review process was quite good so thanks @ERSpublications#phdchat#phdforum#lymphatics
I continue to push hard with my research and projects because I refuse to let my immigration status define who I am as an early career researcher. #phdvoice#AcademicTwitter#immigration
One of the biggest challenges I've faced doing my PhD is the fact that as an international PhD student, all my work could be undone if my visa is not renewed. My current visa expires in one week and I have yet to receive an update. 1/n
This country has been WONDERFUL to me and my family and everyone at the university, especially my supervisors and colleagues, have been as supportive as they can be. However, I can't help feeling I have to work twice as hard just because of where I come from. 3/n
Today's schedule: Lab meeting, finalize the support documentation for my clinical trial, meeting with visiting plastic surgeons to pitch research ideas, register for the conference, send the tissue request form to @FMHS_UoA, check when I can run an experiment. #phdlife
But if you see science training a 9-5 job, there is a problem too. Some days you may need to finish at 2pm, others you may need to stay until midnight. Itβs your call - nobody should dictate hours. Progress made and not hours spent is what matters. 3/3
While #Nz approach is not perfect, I wish my country would copy some of the policies and attitudes towards their multiple pre-colonial cultures and people.

My home country has a rich pre-colonial culture and a very large number of native languages (63) with over 6 million speakers. However, these people are often marginalized and live in atrocious conditions.
Today's research topic: Pulmonary lymph composition in physiological and pathological states. Questions to be answered: is it different between species? What drives the changes between normal and pathological states? Why are all articles on the subject from before 1990?
@jonykipnis The scary thing is that it is happening in the real world as well. The anti-science movement is full of βexpertsβ and βresearchersβ.
I was told at the beginning of my PhD: everything takes twice as long as you think. If someone else is involved then its 4x. If there is a machine or device involved 8x. #phdchat
