THEY TOOK THE CRY OF NIGERIANS TO THE PRESIDENT. THEY RETURNED WITH AN ANSWER THAT SHOULD WORRY US ALL.

The Catholic Bishops didn't go to Aso Rock seeking contracts.

They didn't go lobbying for appointments.

They didn't go "standing on any mandate."

They went carrying the pain of millions of Nigerians.

They said Nigerians are hungry.

The answer? "There has always been hunger before I was born."

They said the economy is crushing ordinary families.

The answer? "The economy is doing well."

They expressed concerns about public confidence in INEC.

The answer? "INEC is neutral."

They worried about whether the next election would offer a level playing field.

The answer? "Whoever wants power should be ready to wrestle for it."

And immediately, my mind went to Rehoboam.

The people begged him to reduce their suffering.

The elders pleaded with him: "Listen to your people."

His loyalists told him: "Show them who's boss."

He listened to the loyalists.

He ignored the people.

The result?

A kingdom that took generations to build split in a single day.

The people walked away shouting:

"To your tents, O Israel!" (1 Kings 12:16)

Every government should fear one thing more than criticism:

The day it stops listening.

The greatest threat to any president is not the opposition.

It is the army of professional cheerleaders who tell him that everything is working while the people are telling a different story.

A nation cannot be governed by applause.

Propaganda cannot fill empty stomachs.

Slogans cannot reduce the cost of living.

And praise-singers cannot rewrite reality.

History is littered with leaders who mistook loyalty for truth.

May President Tinubu never become another Rehoboam, surrounded by people who protect his ego while exposing his legacy.

Because when leaders stop listening, history starts speaking.

The Presidency is now attacking Cardinal John Onaiyekan, saying he breached confidentiality by discussing the bishops’ private meeting with President Tinubu during an @ARISEtv interview.

They are saying Onaiyekan didn't show restraint and maturity. They said he abused privileges. But that is not true, and Nigerians will not fall for their gimmick.

After the meeting, the presidency carefully edited Tinubu’s responses and posted them all over the social media. To them that wasn't breaching confidentiality. They wanted the bishop's to keep quiet and allow Nigerians to attack and accuse them of already going to collect money from Tinubu to support him.

These people are just too fraudulent. The meeting was supposed to be confidential, yet they were releasing all Tinubu said sounding like MC Oluomo during the meeting. They wanted the bishop's to endorse his shameful "all is fair in politics," statement. They wanted the bishop's to endorse that he as president is threatening to wrestle his opponents to the ground. Or the president saying the economy is doing well and hunger has been existing even before he was born statement. They wanted to use their dirty politics to stain the bishop's white cassocks.

They are just fraudulent.

Rehabilitate Existing Infrastructure Before Embarking on New Projects

I have consistently advised governments at all levels to prioritise rehabilitating existing infrastructure before embarking on new projects that may also end up abandoned or left unfinished. For expressing this position, I have often been criticised and called all sorts of names. Yet, it remains the most responsible approach to governance.

It is therefore noteworthy that President Bola Tinubu has now cautioned state governors against committing scarce public resources to constructing unnecessary flyovers in areas with little traffic while neglecting more pressing developmental needs.

The President is, in essence, saying what I have always maintained: government must prioritise projects that directly address the immediate needs of the people. I hope those ministers, officials, and supporters who have consistently attacked this position will now direct the same criticism at him.

However, this admonition must also apply to the Federal Government. There are several unrealistic and white-elephant projects being pursued by the current administration, even as much of our critical infrastructure remains in a state of disrepair. Given our present fiscal realities, priority should be given to rehabilitating and completing existing infrastructure rather than embarking on expensive new projects with limited immediate impact.

Across Nigeria, many of our major highways linking commercial centres and food-producing communities have deteriorated into death traps. Neglecting these critical roads while pursuing prestige projects is neither economically prudent nor people-centred.

This philosophy guided my administration as Governor of Anambra State. I prioritised completing viable projects initiated by my predecessors before embarking on new ones. Government is a continuum, and development should never be measured by who starts a project, but by whether it is completed and serves the people.

Leadership is about making the right choices: fixing what is broken, completing what has already been started, and investing limited public resources where they will have the greatest impact on the greatest number of people.

When I saw the empty column for Tinubu's primary and secondary school qualifications, I immediately remembered the argument Festus Keyamo made in 2022.

He said Tinubu is a great man and that, in those days, great men studied and even took their examinations from home.

Could that be the reason INEC left out Tinubu's primary and secondary school qualifications?

Could it be because they believe he studied from home as a great man?

But even at that, didn't they issue certificates to great men in those days too?
