I am absolutely devastated and sick to my stomach, but this needs to be called out — because this animal shelter is not even trying to prevent euthanasia.
I offered to adopt Lucy from Los Angeles County Animal Control – Palmdale.
So did many others across Instagram, X, and Facebook.
She was only 1 year old.
Her behavior assessment was a 1 — meaning sweet, gentle, and good with other dogs.
She even had a euthanasia hold placed when I offered to adopt.
And today, they killed her anyway.
When adopters are waiting and adamantly trying to save a dog, and you still choose death, that’s not overcrowding — that’s animal cruelty and moral failure.
What kind of monsters do this?
This has to stop. These California shelters must be exposed and held accountable. Too bad soulless Gavin Newscum won’t do anything to prevent this in the future.
And to the person who failed Lucy — I hope you see this and realize you are directly responsible for killing this dog. No animal should pay with their life for human neglect.
Lucy mattered. 💔🐾

Today I returned to the Downey Animal Shelter and sat down with Sergeant Vega and the facility manager, Joe. After everything, they agreed to release the German Shepherd they had named Sherman into my care.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who spoke up, shared his story, and showed compassion when it mattered most. Because of that support, Sherman is no longer just a number on a kennel door… he’s finally free.
From this day forward, Sherman gets the life he’s always deserved.
I drove 500 miles to Los Angeles to rescue a German Shepherd who was red listed for euthanasia.
The shelter told me he was adoptable.
They approved it.
They walked the dog out to me.
I was filming. We were about to load him into the van.
Then I was stopped.
They pulled me aside and said “there was a mistake.”
A clerical error.
Someone entered his behavioral score wrong in the system, which is why he was ever listed as adoptable in the first place.
Once they realized their mistake, they reversed the adoption.
And now, because they corrected their paperwork, they’re going to kill him anyway.
I work with difficult dogs all the time.
This dog is not aggressive.
He’s terrified, stressed, and stuck in a concrete nightmare.
Call Sergeant Vega at 562-658-2085 and ask why dog A5745484 is being euthanized because of a data entry error.
This is what “process over life” looks like.
This is what bureaucracy does when no one pushes back.
I always visualized her big happy face looking out in the number one spot and today is that day.
🇬🇧 Number 1
🇮🇪 Number 1
Of course those are silly little numbers as real stuff is the 80,000 dogs sterilized and the hospital.
This moment is for you Tina. I love you ❤️
@DogLovers03 So sorry for your loss. Was in a strikingly similar circumstance with my dog and remember the excruciating pain after he passed. Indescribable. But, as hard as it is to fathom, peace does eventually come and our happiest memories of them prevail over the grief of their absence.
Sorry for tweeting so much, but Twitter throttles out-bound links, so I'm trying this again.
SoCal animal shelters are overwhelmed with people dropping off injured animals they can't take with them as they flee. Many are in need of volunteers, money, and foster homes 🧵
