Chances

Chances don’t come wrapped in pretty,
they show up dusty, tired, and late.
Lookin’ like trouble at your front door,
askin’ you to tempt your fate.

They sound like a voice in the dark sayin’,
“Child, don’t you give up now,”
Right when your knees are bruised from prayin’
and you don’t know if you remember how.

Some chances feel like jumpin’ fences
with your heart already broke,
Betting everything you got left
on a promise God barely spoke.

Others rise from the ashes
of dreams you buried deep,
Where the nights were long and lonely
and hope wouldn’t let you sleep.

Chances ain’t clean or gentle,
they got dirt beneath their nails.
They ask you to trust when the road runs out
and faith’s all that fails or prevails.

‘Cause miracles don’t shout in daylight,
they whisper at 3 a.m.,
Sayin’, “Stand up, you’re still breathing
this ain’t the way your story ends.”

So take the chance with shaking hands,
with fear still in your chest,
‘Cause the bravest souls ain’t fearless
they just step forward anyway,
and let God handle the rest.
