ngl its a mix of a lot of stuff, manga, comics and studyin anatomy. what exactly inspired me for facial expression honestly i can't tell cuz i don't remember x) but i try to draw what make me laugh, sad or horn'. for exemple i know that i love lips so i try to exagerate it. everything that i like i try to simplify and exagerate it to my liking.
So to learn that its mainly mixing what you like and studying anatomy
Its good as a "side quest", when u give it too much importance thats where the frustration kicks in, no matter what level u are. If it doesn't get out like how you want its alright, just do it and try again and again. Automatically you'll understand how it works by yourself and understand studies etc etc.. thats what i've been doin these last months little by little
Oh damn its complicated to resume that x) well i always drawn since i'm was a kid, my parents been artists i guess it was always in me. It was the thing i was good at, the rest like school n stuff wasn't for me.
At very young age i told myself Ok i wanna be a Mangaka lol i was watchin a lot of anime back then, Naruto, Gurren Lagann, Bleach, Shonen Romance anime a lot of them lol. So i was trying to draw like artists i loved back then (tried to learn Naruto, Bleach, Wakfu, Gurren Lagann artstyle when i had the mood of it) a real chaotic process of learning, but i was having fun with the dream Bro when i'll be strong i'll make a true Banger. First time i got frustated is when i had my 1st Wacom Tablet i couldn't draw on it, the feeling was way too different. I wanted to draw like the Speedpainting i was watchin on yt back then but just couldn't. I kept drawing again and again little stuff here and there without intention (and i think its the most important against frustration).
My first step up was learning Bleach artstyle cuz it was a lil closer to realism, didn't think about it but it helped a lot after that the 2nd real step up was Berserk at 16 i was tryin to learn that. 2nd Wall, Colors never liked it, always hated it x) to these day i still try to understand it, its just way too complex for me x)
Sadly at one point i had to focus on school so it was pretty much always the same thing (drawing without intention of doing something serious, temporary projects like a chapter of something that i would easily give up because another idea was in my mind). A few years later i stop college to focus on me and my drawing, had a real bad depression i needed to heal from that Weirdly Nsfw was my cure lolol The kind community, the vibe of they are in their own world not givin 2 fcks about what people would think about it. And a really good training for anatomy. Got on Twitter in 2020, i was grinding drawing what people liked mainly was drawing suggestions etc. I was still searching for a artstyle still, and it was pretty frustrating at some point. Ok i know all these artstyle thanks to them i kinda know how to draw eyes, hands, hair etc.. but when you look at it its just a copycat of someone else. In 2022 it hit me i saw a animation of D-Art i told myself Wow i love the face he did there! And understood what i really wanted since forever tbh Something Between Realism and Manga, these artstyles always vibed with me i was like OK this makes me want to draw. So i watched seriously a lot of yt videos about perspective, anatomy, fundammentals of any ytber to compare what theyve learned. And once i learned how perpective worked for me it was over x)) Reading this it look easy but its years of doubts and faillures, The "FUCK i don't know how to draw this in this angle", The "It's too hard to draw backgrounds.. i give up" etc.. the important stuff is to go back to it the next day no matter what and don't put pressure on you too early, you'll have time for that when it will become your job, when you learn it take the time to appreciate what you're doing. Don't feel ashame to do studies of artists you like, just don't trace because it has no value for you, you learn nothing from doin it, train to link up your eyes and your drawing hand. Today my workflow is still messy lmao, sometimes i have a peak of motivation and i draw cool stuff and sometimes the ideas just don't want to come (i never force it, which professionally talkin is not good). When ever i feel i forgot how to draw something i just re-learn it again from yt video to remember (cuz when you rely too much on muscle memory you tend to forget stuff x)). Oh and sometimes you may feel like you don't have time (i do feel like that more and more) but try to focus on the present and what you want to learn, i got good at anatomy only recently and i'm still learning (the real peak happened in 1 year of pure training, it will depend on how fast u understand a concept. So Yeh Draw again n again
@ShinobuPP Hey ShinobuPP could you share your complete drawing journey and process? I’d love every detail from beginner mistakes to your full workflow all the little techniques and lessons you’ve learned over the years. A full guide would be amazing!
Mmmmh basic stuff like circles, squares, triangles, lines, S curves, C curves for the dexterity and get more comfy to do clean lines. Cubes, cylinders, spheres for the perspectives, i do it either to find the horizon line and vanishing points of the objects or just to train the objects on different angles. Thats the most important cuz it helps you to build almost anything. Another thing that i do less but that i should do its mixing several forms like Cylinder + Sphere, its a good training for shading if you put a light source somewhere and helps you to draw complex forms like a whole arm for exemple. A real good book that i always comeback to is Bridgman Complete Guide to Drawing from Life it has everything in it for the anatomy. On how i learn it tbh its depends on what i struggle with at the moment, but to me priorities is on the faces and hands. How i translate it to my artstyle, i learned the main structure and then i try to simplify it to what i love and what im used to draw. Once you have the basics in mind, you can tell yourself "Ok I know the space between the eyes you have to be able to fit another eye as long as i respect this rule i can do any form of eyes i want." for exemple. For the different point of view/angles, the best i think its to studies the movies you like, me personally i love low angle shot and bird's eye view (because of Naruto lmao)
@ShinobuPP Nice journey but on that same journey what fundamentals did you actually study and I like key details like 7 fundamentals like how you render, use different all types of perspectives, anatomy on how you studied it and use it as your own style form of anatomy
Honestly it really is anything i find on ytb x) but Proko is certainly my safe way for anything for art in general and for colors Marco Bucci. When it comes to animation, its more complex, i do watch ytb videos for how to use frames (drawing on 2s, on 3s even on 4s, the placement, the rythme etc..) but if you still learn the fundammentals animation as to be a side quest its frustrating to learn both at the same time seriously.
