A literatura e a filosofia nos protegem da arrogância de acreditar que somos os primeiros a pensar como pensamos, sofrer o que sofremos e errar como erramos. Não há absolutamente nada de novo debaixo do Sol.
I don’t miss much about the military but I do miss the grit. Normal people are so petty and particular about the smallest things. Guys at work will run 2 miles for the first time and then go and drop $500 on running gear, from merino wool ankle socks to the most expensive brand new running Garmin, and then spend 3 hours a day researching run form, pacing strategy, and heart rate analysis.
Marines can certainly be gear queers about tactical stuff, but what most people don’t understand is that when they hear about amazing feats of physical endurance like the recruit who did 70 pull-ups or the mortarman who hikes 25 miles with 120+ pounds on his back is that in almost every case, they did it on 2-3 hours of sleep, with a wrinkle in their 100% cotton PX sock, with a warm tube of MRE cheese spread in their pocket, and a notebook chafing against their outer thigh (and almost certainly while hungover and severely dehydrated).
You can just do things.
people want you to do well, when you go on a date that person wants it to go well so they can stop dating. when you interview for a job they want it to go well so they can finally hire someone. people want to watch, read, hear and experience good things. we’re rooting for you
