SECURITY WATCH AFRICA INITIATIVE NETWORK HONOURS AIG OLOHUNDARE MOSHOOD JIMOH AS THE MOST OUTSTANDING ANTI CRIME POLICE CHIEF IN WEST AND CENTRAL AFRICA

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in Charge of Zone 2 Zonal Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has been honoured by the Security Watch Africa Initiatives Network as the Most Outstanding Anti Crime Police Chief in West and Central Africa for 2025.

The award was presented today, 29th July, 2026 during a visit by the Chief Executive Officer and International Coordinator of Security Watch Africa Initiatives Network, Mr Patrick Agbambu to the Zone 2 headquarters.

The presentation followed the 19th edition of the Africa Security watch conference and award ceremony held in The Gambia, where AIG Jimoh was selected for the prestigious honour in recognition of his exceptional contributions to crime prevention and control, and national security.

Speaking during the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer and International Coordinator of Security Watch Africa Initiatives Network, Mr Patrick Agbambu commended the AIG for his remarkable achievement in strengthening security and reducing crime in Lagos State. He noted that the award was in recognition of the AIG’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to effective policing and national security. He also encouraged him to remain steadfast in his efforts while inspiring other young officers to continue working in integrity and dedication to the protection of lives and property, and upholding the rule of law.

In his response, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for the honour and thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM for his exemplary leadership and unwavering support. He also appreciated to the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network for finding him worthy of the recognition.

AIG Olohundare Jimoh dedicated the award to officers and men of Zone 2 Headquarters, as well as personnel of Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands, acknowledging their commitment and professionalism. He credited their collective efforts in ensuring the success of the crime prevention and control strategies introduced during his tenure as the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, and now the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, which has significantly reduced criminal activities across both States.

AIG Olohundare Jimoh further reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law without fear or favour, regardless of status or social class. He assured the public that he would remain undeterred and unperturbed by false narratives or misperceptions, and would continue to discharge his constitutional duties with courage and fairness.

ARREST OF 147 SUSPECTS, RECOVERY OF 250 EXPENDED CARTRIDGES, 22 MACHETES, ILLICIT DRUGS AND OTHER EXHIBITS

As part of the ongoing Operation KO S’AYE III, the Lagos State Police Command has continued its intensive clearance operations targeting criminal hideouts across the State, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to denying criminals any safe haven and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

On Sunday, 19th July, 2026, at about 5:30 a.m., acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of operatives drawn from different formations of the Command carried out a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts at Boolar, Super Ile-Epo, and other identified black spots the state. The operation was aimed at flushing out hoodlums and other criminal elements terrorising the area.

During the operation, a total of one hundred and forty-seven (147) suspects were arrested. Exhibits recovered include: 250 expended cartridges, 2 knives,1 lighter, 5 battle axes, 1 scissors, assorted charms, 22 machetes, substances suspected to be Indian hemp. All the suspects are currently in Police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine their individual culpability. Those found to have committed criminal offences will be prosecuted accordingly.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication to duty. He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to the continued implementation of Operation KO S’AYE, stressing that the operation will be sustained across the State to deny criminals any safe haven and ensure the safety and security of all residents.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in conspiracy, obtaining goods under false pretence, fraudulent conversion, stealing, and the issuance of dud cheques.

The breakthrough followed investigations into three separate cases, which revealed a coordinated syndicate that fraudulently obtained exotic vehicles from dealers using false representations and dud or post-dated cheques before disposing of the vehicles for personal gain.

The investigation led to the arrest of key suspects, while other members of the syndicate remain at large. Through intelligence-led operations and the AUTOREG Vehicle Tracking Platform, detectives recovered Toyota Highlander (2017 Model), Toyota Highlander (2007 Model), Toyota RAV4 (2010 Model), two (2) Toyota Hiace Buses (2016 Model), one Toyota Hiace Bus (2020 Model), and one Ford Edge SUV (2018 Model).

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining vehicles. The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Lagos State Police Command advises vehicle dealers and business owners to exercise due diligence before releasing vehicles, particularly where payment is made through post-dated cheques or unfamiliar intermediaries.

It is deeply concerning that so many are quick to embrace falsehoods. With this investigation already before a competent court, what more can we expect from AIG Zone 2 regarding a matter now out of the hands of @PoliceNG? I urge the AIG to track and arrest those threatening the judge in this case.

While the public's outrage is misdirected, there are those actively seeking to target the AIG simply for ensuring justice is served. Though it often feels as if no good deed goes unpunished in our society, true patriots will never stop standing for what is just. 🚔

AIG ZONE 2 PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE, ZONE A, TO STRENGTHEN INTER−AGENCY COLLABORATION

The Assistant Inspector−General of Police in charge of Zone 2 headquarters, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, paid a courtesy visit to the Zonal Coordinator, Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, Lagos, Assistant Comptroller−General of Customs, ACG Mohammed Babandede at the Zone A Headquarters.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing operational synergy and enhancing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly in combating trans−border crimes, smuggling and other forms of criminal activities.

The Assistant Inspector−General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, accompanied by members of his management team, expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his management team. He noted the strategic importance of Lagos and Ogun States as border states with extensive land and maritime boundaries, stressing the need for sustained intelligence sharing and joint operations.

AIG Jimoh emphasized that closer cooperation between both agencies is imperative to effectively combat trans−border crimes, including smuggling of arms and ammunition, illicit drugs and other prohibited/restricted goods and substances, especially as preparations towards the 2027 general elections gather momentum. AIG Olohundare Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of Zone 2 Headquarters to strengthening its partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, in promoting national security and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation.

In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator, Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, ACG Mohammed Babandede appreciated the AIG and his management team for the visit. He commended AIG Jimoh for his exemplary leadership, humility and unwavering commitment to the service of the nation.

The ACG further noted that the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A command has continued to enjoy a cordial and result−driven working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 headquarters. He expressed optimism that the existing collaboration would be further strengthened to achieve greater operational successes, particularly in intelligence sharing, coordinated enforcement operations and fight against trans−border crimes.

The visit also afforded senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service the opportunity to deliberate on matters of mutual interest, including intelligence sharing, operational coordination, border security and other strategic issues relating to national security.

The courtesy visit underscores the commitment of Zone 2 Headquarters to fostering stronger inter−agency cooperation and strategic partnerships with sister security agencies in the collective effort to enhance public safety, strengthen internal security and ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 headquarters, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, on 8th July, 2026, received the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Lagos, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha who paid him a courtesy visit at the Zonal Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing synergy and operational collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy, particularly in the areas of coastal and maritime security.

The Flag Officer Commanding, who was accompanied by other senior naval officers, expressed a heartfelt appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his entourage upon their arrival at the Zonal Headquarters.

Speaking during the visit, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha underscored the strategic importance of the maritime sector to Nigeria’s economic growth and national development. He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy, especially in intelligence sharing, maritime security and joint operational engagements. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Western Naval Command to strengthening its existing partnership with the Zone 2 headquarters and the Nigeria Police Force towards enhancing national security and ensuring a safer environment for all.

In his response, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh expressed appreciation to the Flag Officer Commanding and his delegation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of a cordial relationship and shared commitment among sister security agencies. ARREST OF 150 SUSPECTS, RECOVERY OF 100 UNREGISTERED MOTORCYCLES, FIREARMS, SUSPECTED STOLEN PROPERTY, AND ILLICIT DRUGS

As part of the ongoing Operation KO S’AYE, the Lagos State Police Command has sustained its aggressive clearance operations against criminal hideouts across the State, in line with the Command’s commitment to ensuring that there is no safe haven for criminals.

On Sunday, 5th July, 2026, at about 5:45 a.m., acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of operatives drawn from different formations of the Command carried out a coordinated raid on criminal hideouts at Boolar, Okofilling Bus Stop, Igando, and other identified black spots within the Area M, Idimu axis. The operation was aimed at flushing out hoodlums and other criminal elements terrorising the area.

During the operation, a total of one hundred and fifty (150) suspects were arrested. Exhibits recovered include one hundred (100) unregistered motorcycles, fifty-four (54) mobile phones, one (1) double-barrel gun, two (2) single-barrel guns, one (1) locally made double-barrel short gun, two (2) military camouflage uniforms, assorted charms, six (6) generators suspected to have been stolen, substances suspected to be Indian-hemp and various quantities of illicit drugs.

All the suspects are currently in Police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine their individual culpability. Those found to have committed criminal offences will be charged to court accordingly.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, comprising Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, PSC, MNIPS, and on credible intelligence, conducted a simultaneous raids across identified criminal hideouts and black spots within the State to prevent cult-related violence associated with the 7/7 celebration/initiation. The operation led to the arrest of one hundred and thirty-five (135) suspected cultists and the recovery of twenty-six (26) firearms, sixteen (16) other dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, battle axes, dagars and knives, cultist insignia, assorted charms, eleven (11) bottles of different alcoholic brands, substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs, as well as six (6) mobile phones.

The operation followed intelligence indicating plans by rival cult groups to launch attacks and engage in other criminal activities. Investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal gangs, while the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

IGP DISU ATTENDS UN CHIEFS OF POLICE SUMMIT, CALLS FOR STRONGER GLOBAL POLICE COOPERATION

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening international policing cooperation as a critical pathway to advancing global peace, security, and sustainable development. The IGP made the call while participating in the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 7th to 8th July 2026.

The summit brought together Ministers, Inspectors-General of Police, Chiefs of Police, and senior representatives of regional and professional policing organisations from across the world to discuss strategies for strengthening international peace, security, and development through enhanced collaboration between national police services and United Nations policing.

Addressing the summit, IGP Disu noted that modern criminal networks increasingly exploit artificial intelligence, encrypted communications, and cyber-enabled platforms to operate across borders with growing sophistication, thereby challenging traditional policing models.

He emphasized that while technology presents significant opportunities for law enforcement through artificial intelligence, digital forensics, and geospatial intelligence, public trust remains the foundation of effective policing. According to the IGP, innovation must reinforce transparency, accountability, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.

The IGP further advocated greater international cooperation, capacity building, and equitable access to digital policing capabilities for all member states, stressing that the benefits of technological advancement should not be limited to a few technologically advanced nations.

Nigeria's participation at UNCOPS 2026 underscores the country's continued commitment to supporting global peacekeeping efforts, strengthening international law enforcement partnerships, and contributing to collective efforts aimed at combating transnational crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and other emerging security challenges.

POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED WOMAN, TWO-YEAR-OLD SON FROM FOREST HIDEOUT IN KWARA

The Nigeria Police Force, has recorded another operational success in its sustained efforts against violent crime with the rescue of an abducted woman and her two-year-old son from a forest hideout in Kwara State.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT), in collaboration with local security support groups, on Saturday, 4th July 2026, conducted a tactical operation in a forest at Bode Sadu, Kwara State, where the victims were believed to be held captive.

Upon sighting the operatives, the kidnappers opened fire in a bid to resist the operation but were met with a swift tactical response, forcing them to flee deeper into the forest. The operatives subsequently combed the area and successfully rescued Adijat Kuburat, aged 43, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat, from the kidnappers' hideout.

The rescued victims have since been taken to a medical facility, where they are receiving appropriate treatment and care while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network responsible for the abduction.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commends the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved in the rescue operation. NIGERIA POLICE FORCE SECURES TERRORISM CONVICTION IN KATSINA ARMS TRAFFICKING CASE; TWO SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS' IMPRISONMENT

The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of two persons prosecuted for terrorism-related offences following their arrest in a major arms trafficking operation in Katsina State in September 2025, reaffirming the Force's commitment to ensuring that criminal investigations culminate in successful prosecution and justice.

It will be recalled that operatives of the Katsina State Police Command intercepted the suspects, Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman, along the Ingawa–Karkarku Road, Katsina State, while transporting a cache of prohibited firearms and ammunition intended for criminal elements. Recovered during the operation were one PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of PKT ammunition, 1,663 rounds of 7.62mm × 39mm AK-47 ammunition, and the vehicle used in conveying the exhibits.

Following comprehensive investigations, the suspects were charged before the Federal High Court, Katsina Judicial Division, in Charge No. FHC/KT/84C/2025 on a five-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession and transportation of prohibited firearms and ammunition, rendering support to terrorists, and acts preparatory to terrorism, contrary to the provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act.

After a full trial during which the prosecution presented witnesses and tendered documentary and material exhibits, both suspects were found guilty on all counts. The Court consequently sentenced each convict to five years' imprisonment on Count One and twenty years' imprisonment on each of Counts Two to Five.
