Leopold of Belgium ruled Congo as his private property for 23 years. He cut off the limbs of Congolese who did not meet their daily quota on the plantation. At the end of his rule, he had killed 15million Congolese people. But we are taught only about Hitler. 😭😭

Thomas Sankara was assassinated on October 15, 1987, during a scheduled meeting at the Conseil de l’Entente headquarters in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The k1lling was swift, brutal, and deeply symbolic a betrayal staged in broad daylight.
🇧🇫 Here’s how it unfolded:
- Sankara was meeting with his advisors around 4: 15 p.m.
- About 15 minutes into the meeting, gunfire erupted in the courtyard.
- His driver and two bodyguards were k1lled first.
- Sankara stood up and told his team: “It’s me they want.” He walked out with his hands raised.
- He was shot multiple times and d1ed instantly.
The gunmen then stormed the meeting room and opened fire, k1lling 12 of his comrades. Only one person, Alouna Traoré, survived.
The assassins were soldiers loyal to Blaise Compaoré Sankara’s former ally and friend. By that evening, Compaoré had declared himself president. He ruled Burkina Faso for 27 years until being ousted in 2014. In 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison (in absentia) for his role in Sankara’s m1rder.
🕊️ Sankara’s final act stepping forward to protect his team was a reflection of his leadership: bold, selfless, and revolutionary to the end.
