Watch the courts! A federal judge just delivered a stunning rebuke amid the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to weaponize the judicial system and suppress dissent and democracy.

U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz issued what POLITICO called a “blistering ruling,” tearing into an ongoing pattern of Trump’s sycophants leveraging the courts to pervert justice.

“Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action — particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take — is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process,” Schlitz wrote in the June 17 ruling, which was unsealed this morning.

In the end, Schlitz tossed out grand jury subpoenas targeting Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and the judge did not hide his contempt for this misuse of the grand jury process.

“Initiating a criminal investigation in order to harass political opponents or to coerce them into taking official action — particularly official action that the federal government cannot directly require those political opponents to take — is a blatantly unlawful and unethical use the grand-jury process,” Schlitz’s ruling read in part.

Trump’s mentor Roy Cohn purportedly taught a younger Trump several corrupt tenets, among them that “people will remember the accusation, but not the retraction” — a strategy that seems to be on full display here.

Unfortunately for Trump and his cronies, MAGA's support has waned to nothing, and the entire planet is watching their high profile failures stack up. As case after case predicated on bogus charges disintegrates, Cohn’s approach is proving moot — the public now knows to watch for the retraction if they want to see the actual truth.

Over the past year and a half, the Trump administration has gone from seemingly unstoppable to an international laughingstock. Their standing is only likely to devolve further as the administration doubles down on bad decisions, and we’re certain to see further smackdowns from the courts.

November is quickly approaching. Do not forget to cast a vote for freedom, accountability, and a restoration of the rule of law.
