If we are going by the logic of Mehdi Hasan and Zohran Mamdani, then they are prime examples of settlers.

Mamdani was born in Uganda. Hasan came from Britain. They moved to a country built through centuries of immigration and became part of its political and social life. Nobody dares question their legitimacy. Nobody tells them to “go back.” And nobody insists they remain perpetual outsiders because they or their families came from somewhere else.

Yet they themselves will turn around and insist that Jews who immigrate to Israel can never truly belong there, no matter how many generations pass.

What makes this especially absurd is that Jews are not even being accused of settling in a land completely foreign to their history. They are being called settlers in the very place where Jewish identity, language, religion, and nationhood originated.

If moving to a country and becoming part of it is normal for everyone else, then it is normal for Jews too. If it is only illegitimate when Jews do it, then this was never really about migration, immigration, or settlers in the first place. It is simply a special rule created for one people and one people alone.

I’m not prepared to go along with it.

The day you start calling yourselves settlers is the day I’ll take your lectures about Jewish settlers seriously.
