At today’s Ministerial Follow-up Committee on the Implementation of #Agenda2063 , the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, @ymahmoudali underscored that Africa’s Agenda 2063 “Decade of Acceleration” will be judged not by the quality of its plans, but by the delivery of tangible transformation.
Speaking on the first Biennial Progress Report of the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (2024–2033), he noted that Africa’s continental performance currently stands at 53%.
Saying that while progress is visible, he cautioned that it is not yet occurring at the speed & scale required to meet the ambitions of #Agenda2063.
He highlighted encouraging gains in governance reforms & citizen empowerment, while warning that progress remains uneven across several flagship “moonshots”.
The Chairperson outlined three urgent priorities to accelerate implementation:
✅Regional integration must be fast-tracked, building on progress under the AfCFTA, air transport liberalisation, energy market integration, & digital transformation, while addressing persistent gaps in infrastructure, connectivity, & protocol implementation.
✅Peace and security remain indispensable prerequisites for development, investment, & trade across the continent.
✅Financing for development must be urgently reformed through stronger domestic resource mobilisation, fair & effective taxation, enhanced public financial management, decisive action against illicit financial flows, & the deployment of innovative financing instruments.
He further called for stronger alignment between planning, budgeting, & execution; deeper integration of Agenda 2063 into national development frameworks; & the reinforcement of accountability systems to ensure delivery.
The Chairperson also expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. @AOuattara_PRCI, in his capacity as the AU Champion for Agenda 2063, for his continued leadership & commitment to advancing Africa’s long-term transformation agenda.
I'm concluding, Mr. Youssouf stated: “Let this be the decade where Africa moves decisively from aspiration to realisation.”
