Throwback to Tytan's first 24 hours in our care. His rescue was something of an endurance race – after his mother fell off a cliff and died, Tytan somehow survived, making his way down to her lifeless body. Then, he disappeared. Rangers, aircraft, even drones, went out in search of him, knowing that the seven-month-old would not survive long on his own.
When Tytan arrived at the Nursery after his rescue, he was wild-eyed and wary. Our Keepers sat with him in shifts, day and night. It turns out scratches are the way in with a young black rhino – ours soon stopped flinching at the contact and started leaning into it.
Hands up – which rescue stories have stayed with you, even to this day?

The cruise industry plays a massive role in the exploitation of captive dolphins. Please join us in asking Carnival Cruise Lines to do the right thing and cut all ties with the dolphin and whale captivity industry.
For months, this elephant lived with a snare cutting deep into his trunk. He’d taken refuge on community land, so our helicopter was deployed to guide him back to Tsavo East, where our Vet Unit could step in. The wound had healed over—but the snare would never have come off without intervention.
Thanks to your support, he got the help he needed. Just like Enkesha, an orphan we rescued with a similar injury, he can go on to live a full, wild life.
These are your donations at work—rescuing, protecting, and healing Kenya’s elephants.

Canada's annual commercial seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on the planet. Facing harsh criticism worldwide because of the hunt's cruelty and unsustainability, Canadian government representatives and sealing industry advocates have spread misinformation. A very special mother - matriarch and grandmother - just shared a very special announcement with us!
Ex-orphan Yatta has delivered a baby girl! After giving birth yesterday morning, the proud mum made a detour to our Ithumba stockades — choosing to share her new arrival to the people who raised her. We named her daughter Yara, which means ‘small butterfly’ in Arabic.
We rescued Yatta — her mother a victim of poaching — in 1999. She has been living wild for more than 15 years, yet continues to celebrate her biggest milestones with us. Yara is Yatta’s fourth child, following Yetu (who recently became a mother herself), Yoyo, and Yogi.
More to come, but as it’s Mother’s Day in many parts of the world, we wanted to add our own piece to the celebrations. Here’s to mothers everywhere, especially our elephant mothers!
We *promise* this is not an April Fool's joke: humans are closely related to gorillas. We share approximately 98% of our DNA with these incredible animals! 🦍
Gorillas are SO MUCH like us. Or should we say... we are so much like them? 💛

With just-born shaky legs & flapping ears, this tiny miracle enjoying one of his first suckles is Tembo. He was the 56th baby to be born to orphans we’ve successfully rewilded! Discover his mum’s journey from fragile orphaned ele to proud new-mum: https://t.co/qibqqzR3TS,
Where do gorillas sleep? 🤔 In nests!
Gorillas build two different nests as they travel - one for daytime use and one for nighttime use. Here we can see Ubwuzu making his nest out of bamboo branches. How cool is that?!

Introducing Global Birdfair’s flagship species! – the Egyptian Vulture 🤍
With a white body, black flight feathers and a striking yellow face and beak, the Egyptian Vultures can be found along the Central Asian and African Eurasian Flyways. 🪽
Populations extend from South Europe to North Africa and throughout Asia. Remarkably, Egyptian Vultures have been observed to use rocks to break open eggs, even showing preference for rocks of a certain shape! 🪨
Sadly, they are globally listed as Endangered and under threat from unintentional poisoning, collisions with powerlines, as well as direct persecution in some countries. ⚠️
