@Martinez1Jacibe I totally agree, now that TikTok has implemented TikTok Shop I feel like every other video is an ad. A platform that used to be for mindless scrolling now makes me log off after watching only a few videos.
Considering how big social media has become it is rare to hear that someone is not on social media. That may seem daunting to some, myself included, but a break from social media might be helpful even if it is not long term. #BeachSMC

Like many others, my screen time also increased during the pandemic. However it is important especially for the younger generation to keep an eye on and monitor their screen time so it doesnt get out of control. #BeachSMC

@Martinez1Jacibe This feature seems like it could be helpful for businesses, like stores and restaurants. As someone who always uses Apple Maps to find local things to do or places to visit, this new feature seems like a great idea.
Considering this is the first time I'm hearing of this, I'm insterested to see how the cases will play out. The outcome of these cases have the possibility to change the dynamic of social media as we know it.#BeachSMC

While shadow banning and post limitations may have stemmed from seemingly good intentions, at what point is platform moderation for worse instead of better? In this case it seems moderation may be doing more harm than good. #BeachSMC

@Martinez1Jacibe Seriously! Nowadays, it feels like every platform is becoming a cash grab. The enjoyment of using these platforms is going down for me personally when they feel inauthentic.
With the rollout of TikTok Shop, authenticity is now at stake for users who are simply trying to gain commission vs. actually recommend products that they truly believe in or use. #BeachSMC

The expansion of Social Media platforms have made sharing intimate/vulnerable details more "acceptable". Yet where is "oversharing" line drawn? There's no doubt that the lines are blurry and it's up to the user to decide what they share. #BeachSMC

@Martinez1Jacibe I totally agree! While TikTok is some of our "guilty pleasures" that we can scroll on for probably too long, there is a time and place for that enjoyment. With all the controversy surrounding TikTok's safety, it is probably for the best to keep the app off of government devices.
Like most things, there are both good and bad sides to TikTok. While it can be a enjoyable outlet to scroll endlessly, it can also seem addicting or harmful for those who take everything they see on the platform literally/seriously.

Is TikTok evolving positively or negatively? I can agree that ever since TikTok shop has been introduced, my FYP is flooded with ads that overwhelm me. An app that used to be an enjoyable, mindless outlet to scroll on now feels disingenuous.

@Martinez1Jacibe I agree that this new safety update adds protection for the younger generation of social media users, however I do think other measures besides an automatic private profile should be implemented. Nonetheless, this is definitely a good start! #BeachSMC
While these screen time limits and parental control updates aren't without flaws, I do think that this is a step in the right direction towards being mindful of our time spent mindlessly scrolling, especially for the younger generation. #BeachSMC

With social media playing such a big influence in society, especially for the younger generation, maintaining the distinction between real life and a highlight reel is vital to protect one’s mental health and self perception. #BeachSMC
