I turn 30 next year. I'm considering skipping NYSC entirely and just getting the exemption letter instead.
I'm trying to figure my life out right now and I can't justify 6 weeks of camp doing fuck all for a net 0 return.
Abeg, how does the exemption process actually work?

An NYSC reform of this Magnitude should have had MANY public discussions with the Graduates. Nobody who has done NYsC will suggest increasing Camp stay to 6 weeks or outrightly changing the Uniform.
Thats my 1st sign this NYSC recommendation was Cooked Up by a proper Idiot. 🙄
My questions are;
- Does the whole 1 year scheme shortened to just 6 weeks, or it’s the 3 weeks camp that’s turned to 6 weeks?
- What are the said skills the corp members will be trained on?
- What happens after the 6 weeks training? Will there be PPA just like it is now?
Doc.,
Sir, this is a classic flip-the-argument tactic: an ad hominem assumption. I think that was unnecessary.
Doc., i prefer discussing the macro-economic data (the N1.5 trillion spent), but you are trying to invalidate my argument by guessing my background and location, suggesting i am disconnected from the grass-roots reality of rural Nigeria.
Whether I live in a village or an urban center doesn't change the data: subsidizing structural decay with transient labor isn't sustainable.
Relying on NYSC to staff LEA schools and rural PHCs is exactly why those institutions remain in a permanent state of emergency.
Instead of spending half a trillion naira annually on camp kits and stipends to temporarily plug holes, that money should be used to build durable infrastructure and fund permanent, well-paid jobs for local teachers and doctors who won't leave after 11 months.
Ndewo.
NYSC new reforms
- Orientation now set to be six (6) weeks to train corp members on digital, leadership and entrepreneurial skills
- Uniform to be changed
- Now to be led by a civilian
- Every form of parade and paramilitary orientation to be scrapped
- Passing out Parade to be replaced by a graduation ceremony
We will talk about the uselessness of Vitinha one day. Guy I'm so angry.
They don't even look like they train. They don't look like they play with formation. They are just scattered everywhere.
