Attorney-General says Government accepts recommendation of Constitutional Review Committee to extend presidential term from 4 to 5 years.
Minimum eligible age to contest for president reduced to 35 from 40.
For the avoidance of doubt, this proposed ammendment does not apply to the incumbent President.
I don’t think people realize that @SpaceX just landed a rocket the size of a 16-story building softly into the ocean.
It’s 171 feet long (52 m) and weighs ~100 tons dry.
@tracychamberss@DonkorST the judiciary, at least outwardly, should appear neutral. this cj’s constant hanging out with govt officials is bad for optics
Casuals won’t see it, but this is how FIFA has often operated.
It’s the same dynamic we saw with the Club World Cup.
Many UEFA clubs criticized the tournament for years, yet once the financial rewards became enormous, participation was no longer a debate. Chelsea esrned $100 million from winning it, while Real Madrid earned over 80m.
The proposed payment to FIFA’s member associations works on the same principle. Around $20m is transformative for countries like Cabo Verde or Ghana. For many smaller federations, that is decades of development funding.
If even Chelsea and Madrid couldn't turn down $ 80m-$100m, it is too much to ask the Togo Federation to turn down $20m
Every FIFA member association has one vote. So while Europe’s biggest nations may oppose the proposal mostly because like the clubs 20m may be peanuts, the financial incentive carries far greater weight for smaller associations, many of which may never qualify for, let alone win, a World Cup.
Whether people agree with the proposal or not, it’s easy to see why many smaller federations would be inclined to support it.
the immediate financial benefit is simply too significant to ignore.
