Cowboy Carter is great and important but anyone who thinks country music is dying needs to take their head out the sand...

Beyoncé revives a dying genre on instantly timeless country album ‘Cowboy Carter’: review https://t.co/yszJkGgThj

Mad that we've come through Lil Nas X (and countless others before) but Beyoncé's latest "isn't country"

There is no better feeling than waking up on a Monday morning knowing that there's a superbowl performance to watch 😁😁

Spoke with @RollingStone regarding the UMG/TikTok situation. Thanks RS for this article. https://t.co/m8PiyeGCC2

And this is why we need music degrees that train all-round musicians who love to pass on their skills and inspire the younger generation! #musiceducation #savemusicatbrookes

Love this feature! If you didn't put your songs in the wheelie bin then you need to take a look in the mirror... 😆

Come on, not everyone can drop a scat solo over a swing rework of their hit song as powerfully as Raye! Absolutely owned it 🙌🙌🙌 Amazing Jools Holland this year. Happy new year!

Fun find while searching family things - a bunch of old piano music, and this, which from a bit of digging would have been the notes from my granddad's first piano lesson, when he was age 5 in 1933! A special find 😄

It's devastating to see the lights in other music departments being extinguished. We are a community of music educators, not a market, and anyone who has been through this will read these words with horror. Music matters and all students deserve the ability to pursue it.

[Music at Brookes @musicatbrookes]

We are sad to share with you the news that Oxford Brookes University has decided to close its music department. Below a statement from the music team - we are all devastated.

[Abigail Parker @AbigailM_Parker]

I am beyond appalled and absolutely heartbroken by this devastating decision.

Brookes was my academic home for four years. This department was where I fell in love with music research and catalysed my academic passion.

These HE cuts are reprehensible and reckless.

[Callum Fisher @_Callum_Fisher_]

Absolutely gutted to hear this, my masters at Brookes was amazing and the staff were so engaging, kind, knowledgeable and fun, as well as being excellent academics who pushed me to do my best. Gutted doesn't really cover it!

[Dr Pal @maia_pal]

Today Oxford Brookes announced the closure of its Maths & Music departments, & that many colleagues in others are at risk of redundancies in a ridiculously short timeframe & insulting VS scheme: in English, History, Film, Anthropology, and more to come. All doing great research.

[Louie @DJLouieXIV]

That! Feels Good! still bangs. A real joy bomb. Makes me smile every time. Love this album.

How on earth have I ended up on the bowling for soup mailing list?

For folks who are in the "pop today all sounds the same" camp, I highly recommend Olivia Rodrigo's 'GUTS' 👍

Fresh album with some fun stuff going on, top tracks I'd recommend:
lacy
ballad of a homeschooled girl
teenage dream

Come onnnn 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Every performance from #MercuryPrize has been great, always the best awards show of the year! Tough one to call, but fingers are crossed for Ezra Collective🤞

...and Olivia Dean...

...and Loyle Carner...

...and Raye...

Glad I don't have to decide! 😂

Great few days in Liverpool at the @SocMusAnalysis Popular Music Theory and Analysis Summer School - awesome sessions and met some great people! 😄

Researching Tiktok music & trends at the moment, have reached 2020 Lewis Capaldi and there are faaaar too many videos of kids pretending to be dead/grieving for views 😳 hoping the next few songs in my data set are bangers to redeem my hope in humanity! 😆
