The CCIW has announced the recipients of its annual Chris Martin Perseverance Award, and Wheaton football player Jaxon Powell is one of two student-athletes to earn the honor this year.
Named for the first full-time commissioner of the CCIW, the Chris Martin Perseverance Award honors a student-athlete who demonstrates an unwavering commitment to overcome a physical challenge in order to compete at the highest level of conference athletics.
Powell dealt with complications from a MRSA infection and recovered from a life-threatening medical situation before rejoining the Thunder football team on the sidelines last fall.
Congratulations to Jaxon for receiving this noteworthy recognition!

Wheaton's head football coach Jesse Scott has announced the promotion of Wyatt Lee to the role of Offensive Coordinator ahead of the team's 2026 season.
Lee joined the Thunder coaching staff as a defensive assistant following his graduation from Wheaton College in 2022 and has served as the Special Teams Coordinator for the past two years.
Regarding Lee's promotion, Coach Scott says, “In making this move, the primary goal for me is to hire somebody who loves Wheaton football with a deep and abiding passion, is loyal to it, and is committed to the program. I want someone that has the know-how and want-to to contribute to the next phase of the evolution of our offense. Wyatt’s experience in trying to stop offenses, both as a player and assistant coach, gives him a unique viewpoint in developing our offense.”
