for many disabled people, there comes a realization that you would be left during an emergency. fires, school shootings, pandemics, war...it's dehumanizing and terrifying, but it's based in reality. to see the events over the last month play out, to be able to witness the endless care of neighbors and healthcare professionals refusing to leave their most vulnerable members behind has healed something inside of me that i have carried for half of my life. these people aren't just heroes- they're role models, they're the best society has to offer.
Disabled people should never apologize for needing access or accommodation.
