@SGComm575@EmergingSocial1#co575 Same here, I didn't really think twice about how others navigated social media platforms. I personally love subtitles, especially when watching Netflix in a loud setting, but I looked at them as a preference not as a necessity. That's changed now.
@EmergingSocial1#CO575 learning about the introduction of the phrase "That's so takei" was surprising. I didn't even realize there was a law in the works to ban the word, which is quiet an interesting situation.
@RickyGuy716@EmergingSocial1#co575 Oh yes I read that, it was the Kodak films I believe. I thought it was interesting because sometimes we want the same results as others but don't even realize things are not designed for us. It wouldn't have crossed my mind that the film is not meant to favor darker tones
@EmergingSocial1#co575 I found the analogy of the switching from Myspace to Facebook to that of the white flight that happened in neighborhoods to create the suburbs an interesting one. Myspace was described as "ghetto" but FB as "sleek" because it wasn't customizable...
@nayeliparra25@EmergingSocial1#co575 I received an email about this but didn't realize it was a situation that originated on social media. Totally agree, virtual threats hold the same value as in person threats. I feel like virtual safety can be shrugged of sometimes, but something to be vigilant about.
@EmergingSocial1#co575 This weeks reading dove into how important and how much of an impact social media can have in creating a momentum to demand change. The use of hashtags for OWS was key in the uprising however the lack of clarity on the one demand was part of their failure
@BigCornn510@EmergingSocial1@EmergingSocial1#co575 I'm not entirely sure it's exclusive to searches either. I had a friend txt me a link of a song and I had an ad for that artists concert near me within a couple hours. It was weird because I hadn't heard of the artist prior to that txt.
@EmergingSocial1#co575 The surveillance and control apparatus section mentions how people tend to disregard information & searches if not found on the first two pages of the search on google. I'm guilty of doing this so I'm questioning what is being pushed to be the top links.
@thomasqphung@EmergingSocial1 Hi Thomas, social media definitely made communicating with others easier. I do wonder how differently we would have navigated the pandemic if social media wasn't as established as it currently is.
@EmergingSocial1#co575 This week I learned about working in tandem with others. Temporal symmetry happening in real and online settings is really weird, mostly the online part. You can become synchronized even if you've never met in person? what..
@SGComm575@EmergingSocial1#CO575
Agreed, I feel profiles today have become part of a job searching/ hiring process. Especially if the job is digitized. It gives insight to employers, even when you don't necessarily intend it to be.
@EmergingSocial1#CO575 Interesting to read how teenagers are the ones to set trends & adults follow suit. They dominate the internet realm. IG feeds today give the same feeling as walking into a friends living space for the first time and learn their likes and dislikes quickly.
@_emily_isis@EmergingSocial1#CO575 This week has definitely made me realize how much emotion is involved in... well everything. Even if you intend to keep things factual. Trolling is a good example of emotional manipulation, usually doesn't stop till they get someone.
@EmergingSocial1#CO575 Learning about "Secondary Brand Associations"wasn't necessarily shocking. Great marketing, but I found it disturbing to see it has muddled it's way into an election process. Seems to have played a role behind having a former reality star as president.
@EmergingSocial1 reading helped understand what encompasses participatory culture.Interesting to see the argument of participation not really being voluntary but rather like a veil where behind is a constant collection of data & usage to insight capital gain for companies #CO575
@EmergingSocial1 The reading helped understand what encompasses participatory culture. Interesting to read the argument our "participation" is not really voluntary but rather like a veil where behind is a constant collection of data & usage to insight capital gain for companies.
@JuneButterfly5@EmergingSocial1 Agreed. Social media marketing seems to be establishing itself now, but I still think people are learning to navigate it & will expand even more. Tik Tok is a great re-branding and marketing example of what is possible in the social media world
@EmergingSocial1 With the seeming monopolization of social media, it raises a question of concern. These outlets have become increasingly popular for people and communities who are not often heard. The control or censorship that can stem from these companies is unsettling.#CO575
