1. Get paid (and handsomely that is)
2. Develop AI in a safe manner that wouldn't destroy society.

When they became a for profit, the second incentive started to fall away and many left and founded Anthropic. They lost incentives.

@BlurCrypto no, you can still sell the 50% instantly. You take it if you think DBR is down 40% in 6 months. Also, they are giving you an extra 20% if you decide to vest. So you actually only take that option if you think it's gonna be down ~60%.
