Hormuz Under Siege: Protection or Protection Racket?

Let’s put the numbers on the table.
Roughly 7.3 billion barrels of oil pass through the Strait of Hormuz every year. At $70–80 per barrel, that’s over $500 billion in annual trade.
Now comes the Trump proposal: a 20% “security premium” slapped on that flow. Do the math—that’s $100–120 billion a year extracted from a region by a power that is not even from the region, does not own the resource, and does not even border the waterway.
That’s not security. That’s rent-seeking on a global artery. That’s imperial taxation.

Contrast that with what Iran has floated: $1–2 million per tanker, which—based on ~25,000-30,000 tankers annually—comes out to roughly $25–60 billion per year, shared with Oman.

And here’s the key difference:
That fee is tied to actual services:
– Coastal navigation control in one of the world’s narrowest chokepoints
– Search and rescue operations
– Anti-piracy and maritime safety
– Environmental protection and spill response
– Port and traffic coordination on both sides of the strait.
In other words, payment for management of a waterway you physically inhabit and secure.

So the question is simple:
Who has the right?
Those who live on the shores, control the geography, and bear the risks?
Or those who show up with fleets and invoices?
One is indigenous stewardship.
The other is imperial extraction dressed up as “security.”

You don’t get to patrol a region you don’t belong to, then send the bill to the world.
That’s not order.
That’s a protection racket at global scale.

The bottom line here is the world system has become so corrupt that the time has come I think to clean the crap out of the stables and start over.

If people can't unite over children being killed, raped, and abused there's no hope for humanity.

There are many shocking provisions in the scandalous “agreement” signed by Lebanon and the Israeli regime, but none more shocking than point 13 whereby Lebanon purports to give up its international legal claims against the Israeli occupation. But a news flash for the US-Israel Axis: Article 47 of the 4th Geneva Convention explicitly states that protected persons in occupied territories cannot be deprived of the benefits of the Convention“by any agreement concluded between the authorities of the occupied territories and the Occupying Power." The rights and protections guaranteed under IHL
cannot legally be signed away or contractually waived, not by Lebanese officials, not by the occupying Israeli regime, and not by its complicit US ally. Point 13 is null and void as a matter of law, and the other provisions of this absurd surrender deal will eventually follow it into the trash bin of history.

4. تحويل الجيش اللبناني من قوة لحفظ الاستقرار ورمز للوحدة الوطنية إلى قوة "امتثال" تخضع لإسرائيل والولايات المتحدة.
5. إضفاء الشرعية على الحرب الإسرائيلية باعتبارها رداً على أعمال عدائية بدأها حزب الله.
6. تبرئة إسرائيل من أي جرائم حرب أو جرائم ضد الإنسانية ارتكبتها بكثافة في لبنان، ومنع الحكومة اللبنانية من اللجوء إلى القوانين أو المؤسسات الدولية لمحاسبة إسرائيل.
7. منح إسرائيل سيادة "مشتركة" على الأراضي اللبنانية؛ إذ يُسمح لإسرائيل قانوناً، بموجب الاتفاقية، بالإبقاء على احتلالها طالما لم تتحقق احتياجاتها الأمنية. إسرائيل تقرر، ولبنان يمتثل.
8. تجنب استخدام كلمة "انسحاب" واستخدام مصطلح "إعادة انتشار" بدلاً منها، للإيحاء بأن إسرائيل ليست قوة احتلال.
9. التعامل مع العمل العسكري الإسرائيلي باعتباره "ضرورة" وليس احتلالاً غير قانوني لأراضي دولة ذات سيادة.
10. ربط إنشاء "مناطق تجريبية" مستقبلية بـ "الموافقة المتبادلة"، مما يمنح إسرائيل "الحق" في احتلال الأراضي اللبنانية إلى أجل غير مسمى، نظراً لعدم وجود أي التزام عليها بمنح "موافقتها".
11. حظر إعادة الإعمار فعلياً في معظم قرى جنوب لبنان، حيث تقيّد الاتفاقية وصول تمويل إعادة الإعمار إلى "أفراد" مرتبطين بحزب الله. وبما أن معظم القرويين مرتبطون بحزب الله، فلن يتمكن غالبيتهم من إعادة بناء منازلهم. إن هذا يُعد تطهيراً عرقياً تضفي عليه الحكومة اللبنانية الشرعية.

In 1983, I stood in the conference room with other journalists behind David Kimche, the head of the Israeli negotiating team at the Lebanon Beach Hotel in Khaldeh, before the talks that led to the 17 May Agreement began.

I can say this clearly: the 2026 framework is even more dangerous. Even though Hezbollah had not yet formally emerged in 1983, today the agreement makes Israeli withdrawal conditional on Hezbollah’s disarmament, without any fixed deadline.

The 1983 agreement and the 2026 framework are likely to meet the same fate. Hopefully, I will live long enough to see this one thrown into the dustbin of history.
