To the woman who says, "My vagina feels too wide after childbirth…"
Dear woman, I want you to know that what you are experiencing is real, and you are not alone.
After a vaginal delivery, especially after giving birth to a large baby and sustaining a significant tear, the pelvic-floor muscles and tissues can become stretched or injured. Sometimes the repair may also not restore the anatomy completely.
If you now feel very little sensation during penetration and it is beginning to affect your confidence, your sex life or your marriage, please don't simply assume that you have to live with it.
And please don't blame yourself.
Your vagina has not necessarily become permanently “too wide.” Reduced sensation can be related to pelvic-floor weakness, muscle injury, scar tissue, nerve injury or changes in the anatomy after childbirth.
The first step is a proper examination by a gynaecologist, preferably someone with expertise in pelvic-floor disorders or vaginal and perineal reconstruction.
Most women do not need surgery. Pelvic-floor physiotherapy and appropriate rehabilitation can make a significant difference.
But if there is a genuine structural problem causing persistent symptoms and significant emotional, sexual or social distress, reconstructive surgery may sometimes be an option.
The aim is not simply to "make the vagina tighter." The aim is to identify what was injured, understand why you have lost sensation and, where appropriate, restore the anatomy and function.
So, anonymous woman, please don't suffer silently.
Childbirth changes the body. Sometimes the body needs time to heal. Sometimes it needs rehabilitation. And sometimes it needs specialist reconstruction.
None of these means that there is anything wrong with you.
There’s a total media blackout on the killings happening in Plateau State. Terrorists have intensified their attacks over the past few days, yet much of the Nigerian media has remained disturbingly silent. People are being killed, and the country is acting as though nothing is happening.
People are dying in Plateau State, and the silence is deafening. So many attacks barely make the news, while those affected are left to grieve and fend for themselves. Plateau people deserve protection, accountability and a voice. We cannot keep pretending everything is fine.
