This is arguably the best performance I have seen from Madrid for years, a proper performance where everyone locked in. Forget the tactical brilliance for a minute. You see why Madrid signed Mourinho?? To restore the mentality, the confidence. That’s what you see against Barca tonight. They played like they wanted it more.

Look at the way they approached this game, the aggression, the confidence, the way they fought for every ball. Bellingham was everywhere, Guler was excellent, and the way they exploited Barcelona’s high line in transition was smooth. Mbappe could have scored more, Madrid actually had enough chances to put this game to bed earlier.

And Cucurella, look at how he handled Yamal. All that talk before the game, only for him to struggle against Madrid’s defensive setup. This is football, you have to show it on the pitch.

Barcelona’s problem is still the same, you cannot keep defending this way and expect to get away with it against every good team. Madrid knew where the spaces were, and anytime they broke through the press, they looked dangerous. This is what happens when a team knows its strengths and has the confidence to execute its game plan.

For me, beyond the tactics, it is the mentality that stands out the most. Everybody was ready for this game. Nobody looked scared, nobody looked like they were second guessing themselves. That is the Madrid you expect to see in a game of this magnitude. And you have to credit Mourinho. You must.
