@JCSalad He gets out of his chair, kneeling down so he can kiss them on the lips.
“There is now. ❤️ How the hell did ye do that? It usually takes me a whole evening to recover when I’m in that state.”
@JCSalad He sniffs the air and nods.
“Smoke, since ye blew out some of the candles to dim the room.”
He realizes that their strategy is working: he somehow feels much calmer than before.
@JCSalad He does as he’s told. Strange, he briefly thinks, that he’s crowned and so quickly taking someone else’s orders.
He closes his eyes. “Thank God it’s quiet in here…”
Philip Herbert opens the door. “Your Majesty, I-“
“No, out!” James snaps. Philip leaves.
@JCSalad He takes off his crown and sets it on the table, then undoes his fur cape as fast as his fingers allow him, letting it slide off his shoulders and fall to the floor. He takes deep breaths, the overwhelming day catching up with him.
@JCSalad After the ceremony is over, there’s a procession through the streets, and James waves to his new English subjects from atop his horse.
Later, it’s finally time for him to retire to his room, and he asks Juls to come along.
@JCSalad He gives a speech about how being king is like being a father, a doctor, and a teacher to a whole country of people all at once. He talks about how he has many years of experience ruling in Scotland, and hopes to transfer that knowledge and experience here in England.
@JCSalad James bit his lip slightly, but hardly anyone noticed the exchange between them.
He then stood up.
“I know that this isn’t typical, but I wish to make a speech, as yer newly crowned king.”
